Hypothetical valuation
What would a 147GTA be worth, with an AD 3.7 conversion and all the required bits (Coilovers, clutch, LSD)?
I've never seen on on the used market, and I'm a little unsure as to how this would be priced. Bear in mind a decent GTA costs £13k, the AD conversion with all the above is about £8k, and your getting a new engine, clutch, suspension etc.
Would £18k be about right?
(Note, I understand this is vague, its because I cant be any more specific )

Re: Hypothetical valuation
Usual trade valuation is to knock off the cost of putting it back to standard. This one could be worth more than book retail, in a very thin market.

Re: Hypothetical valuation
On the s/h market it would be the same as a std 147GTA, maybe even less because you have reduced the potential target market.
You would be VERY lucky if anyone offed £18000 for a s/h GTA, even with those mods.

Re: Hypothetical valuation
David, I doubt it would be "the same or less" as a standard GTA. If there was a standard GTA for £12k, or a 320bhp Autodelta one with all the trimmings for £13k, which would you chose? I'm pretty sure you could ask a few K more for a car with £8k's worth of mods.
I'd say anyone interested in a GTA would also be interested in a converted one, if the price was right.
Swanny, I'm not at liberty to discuss details further at the present time

I agree with you, it's just where you draw the line of how much more it'd be worth considering I would probably prefer to get a standard car and have the work done myself. I guess up to 4/5k more IF you could find the one person that really is looking for that.

Re: Hypothetical valuation
In the days of the old mini cooper S (1960's) we used to reckon that by the time someone's old enough to insure it they are too old to want it.

Re: Hypothetical valuation
It's worth precisely what someone is willing to pay mate - imo. I'd say it's definately worth more than a similar standard car to the right buyer, especially if you can document the work, service care since the work, etc.
For example, in my previous life as a VW Corrado owner ( ), I bought a VR6 rado off some everyday fella with no interest in corrados for 900 quid. These things can then be passed on to corrado-freaks for so much more money it's ridiculous!
My point is, value is subjective.
Does that make any sense at all?!

Re: Hypothetical valuation
Yes it does. A modded GTA would definitely be worth more to the likes of us, but when selling you would have to find the right person. Dealers and Joe Public would not be so interested. That's why I think the book value people often quote is not meaningful on specialist (and relatively rare) cars like a GTA. You can see how prices tend to fluctuate based on what's available, because you can bet the dealers are all checking the prices on the internet.
Cheers,
Nigel

Re: Hypothetical valuation
If I was buying a GTA again and knowing what I know now (after a year with the car and time on here) I would definately be more interested in one that had been to Autodelta for some mods.
Joe public will probably be put off by the 'modified car' tag as they have little idea of the areas that need improvement and how good Autodelta are.
Reckon you might get a couple of grand more at resale.
Ask if Autodelta would be willing to sell it for you when the time comes?

Re: Hypothetical valuation
For what it is worth, I would tend to agree with Swanny, in that I guess you would probably make about £3k over what a similar unmodified car was worth.
People are just wierd, they will offer you what they think it is worth and what they feel is justified depending on their finances or lust!
I hope you get what you are after - but unless you find a complete coke head I doubt you will get the £8k uplift.

Re: Hypothetical valuation
I will point out that I don't have a converted GTA, just a standard one (and mines been away so long I'm starting to think that I never even owned one, it was just a figment of my overactive imagination)
But still, its nice to know what they might be worth, if, you know, anyone I know might have one, or be selling one, or wanting one.
Edit - Jimmy, if you'd have offered £10 CASH, a copy of this months EVO and a trip to Dom's Linux basement, I might have agreed....

Re: Hypothetical valuation
I think people are right in saying the value would not be high, unless you were very lucky and found someone looking for exactly that car.
That said, if I saw a GTA in any of the 3 flavours, or a GT 3.2, in very good physical condition with a full Autodelta 3.7 (or supercharged) setup that had been well done and was reliable - and hadn't been thrashed - I'd be really tempted to chop in my standard GTA and get it if the price was good. A white or red 147GTA with all the kit would be a great change from my understated GTA now that my wife is about to get an estate as our "family" car.
I'd love the 3.7NA conversion on mine, and LSD, shocks etc but could simply not afford it, or justify the fact the value would not be retained...
