For those of you who know my story, i wanted to let you know i've had a great weekend of driving!!
After about 8 weeks I finally got her back (although my kids have named her Alfie!!) I took it very easy for the first day and had a bit of a clutch issue, it had been sat for 6-7 weeks so it took a bit of time to pressure up.
Once I got to grips with it I decided to see what she would do! I don't think there is a better sound than the 3.2 V6, you hardly need a radio in the car as the engine provides the best sound track. I can't help blipping the throttle everynow and again while sat at the lights. Even though you get silly looks from the rep in the mondeo to your right!
The engine had been pretty much overhawled and rebuilt by the garage (Alfatechnico, who are brill) and therefore was much improved from before, more power low down and a very good throttle response. It's acceleration stunned me let alone the punk in the corsa that I left eating my dirt the first time I gave it the beans. I was also amazed by the way it went from 40 to 70 in third, almost scared myself as I wasn't expexting it to be quite so quick.
Cornering is a joy too. I think I need a softer compound on the fronts though, as it seems to break free a bit to easily at about 3500 revs. But it has great feel and feedback in my opinion. I haven't taken it too far as yet cos i'm still getting used to handling the power, but I don't think it's gonna disapoint me when I do.
I very quickly needed to visit a petrol station, as the GTA likes a drink!! This allowed me admire the looks of her! there is (in my opinion) no better looking car of it's class or type. Sure the VX VXR looks nice, but the 147 is just soooooo much better, smoother lines better road presence, and a LOT classier (nice people drive Alfas). As I was filling her up I noticed that all the other people on the forecourt were looking at the car!! some with almost open mouths!! The cashier even asked me "what is it?" So I procedeed to enlighten him, leaving him fully decided that his next car would be an Alfa!
So that's my story, I have waited years to be in a position to buy this car, and despite having had my problems with it (not the cars fault) I am over the moon that I've joined the GTA ranks. It makes you feel special and NEVER fails to put a smile on your face.
Enough writing, I'm off for a drive!!!!
