PeterK works for the company in Germany that makes them. Forget the name but if you have a trawl you'll dig it up.

If you just take your plastic one off and give it to the 'blokes at work' im sure theyll figure out how to copy it, theyre not very complicated..........

Re: Autodelta Ally Undertray

If Autodelta don't have any in stock.
Alfisiti.net might have them?

Certainly a few tuning shops do the Zeatek undertrays.

Re: Autodelta Ally Undertray

I think given the deluge of help and useful comment a might just be patient and get the q2 etc installed and then go back for the under tray fitting. I could make one myself or get the boys at work to do it but it might turn out a bit heath Robinson.
Trailbreaker thanks for the link I will add that to the list and use them in the future possibly.

Re: Autodelta Ally Undertray

Gents,
I've been contemplating fitting one of these undertrays but have been advised not to. I've changed mine 3 times as my cars problem is compounded by the lowered ride height.
I've been advised that the metal undertray doesn't break like the plastic one but it bends back & messes up the exhaust downpipes etc, this makes for an even more serious problem.
Any opinions here? This undertray is a damn irritating problem & after replacing mine 3 times I'm somewhat anoyed.

Re: Autodelta Ally Undertray

I would have thought that if you were hitting it hard enough for the undertray to hit the downpipes then the downpipes would get bent by the impact anyway regardless of which undertray is fitted.

Re: Autodelta Ally Undertray

That's what I thought? I've never hurt the undertray that way. It's happened twice at the dyno & once on a bit of a steep driveway.

So, what's the steel undertray like?

Re: Autodelta Ally Undertray

Good point Monstro.
Here on Alfa club they got some 30-40 pieces. My engineer fitted the most. Then I asked him if it was good to buy one also .He said No, for the reason my friend Monstro said but also : there is a hole at the middle for cooling reasons, if something like stone or something on the road meet this hole it will brake all the front bumper and brake all the front parts undertray is connected.
And after some weeks it happened to one of our members here. Big damage !!! you don't need to know...

Re: Autodelta Ally Undertray

I've got the Zeatek item on my car and have been very happy with it. There was always one part of the road on the way to work that the car always bottomed out on and since I replaced the tray no more problems. It gives an extra 20mm clearance....not much, but it makes a massive difference practically.

I went through 2 trays before deciding what a ****e piece of gear the original tray was. A lot of us guys in Oz did a group buy (2 years ago) and none of us have had a problem. The chances of a stone bouncing up and causing damage would be less than winning lotto. I can't honestly see how it could do damage to the bumper?

Re: Autodelta Ally Undertray

I've fitted an alloy under tray on my GT and now the car clears speed bumps no problem.

But when I removed it after about 3 months to fit a lower strut brace I noticed that there were several areas on the top side that had been in contact with various steel parts under the engine (e.g. crimp connectors and brackets for rubber hoses) these had worn the alloy away to a depth of about 0.5mm and considering that the sheet is only about 2mm thick it may have eventually worn a hole right through if I hadn't noticed it, also causing damage to the parts it's in contact with. I have now fitted self-adhesive foam patches (see attached pic) in these areas to help reduce any further friction, and was very careful when refitting the tray not to fit it as tight to the engine etc as before i.e. let it sag a little.

Its also worth noting that the threaded inserts (or rivnuts) along the underside of the bumper and at the back of the tray tend to loosen after a while if the tray has been removed a few times and will need to be replaced with new rivnuts (M6). This is the case with mine and one corner is held on with cable ties at the moment until I can get it fixed.

I think what they're saying is if you catch the metal
undertray on anything it'll rip out any of the plastic
bodywork it is attached to, where as a plastic undertray
will itself break before this happens.

I always considered the 147 undertray as a consumable part.

Re: Autodelta Ally Undertray

I would think that you would have to be practically be doing cross country work to suffer a problem with the undertray catching a large stone and doing damage.

i.e. this wouldn't be a road that you would not typically be travelling on with a standard undertray anyway since it would be destroyed due to being 20mm lower. (I have destroyed a few in my time on my t-sparkand my GTA)

The plastic sump doesn't provide much impact protection, I don't think either are designed for that and you simply have to analyse if it is safe to drive on a rocky bumpy road that has protruding rocks.
..even without an undertray.

Cheers,
TB

I'm not a doctor - but I really do recommend braking later

Re: Autodelta Ally Undertray

I can tell you what I did finally on mine.
I took it out and got a big polyester fabric - same that use to make boats- and i liter of resign. I cutt to the shape of the original under tray and placed the resign. Left out for one day. Next day it looked as I placed carbon fiber material. Is very stronger, solid and stiffer. It stays higher and doesnt lay down after 12 moths of use. Very nice and CHEAP !!!

Well I've knackered my plastic undertray twice; and certainly think the aluminium one would be worth fitting if I was going to keep the car much longer
