Help Help needed- Thermostat?

Hi Guys.

I need you help...
Got home last night, and as I parked the car I realised that my fan was running, being strange as it was a very cold night(Winter in RSA). I then then checked my temperature gauge which was dead. It worked earlier the day?? I got a hell of a fright and thought my radiator must have gone bust...with all the water drained....but it was all ok. Where do I start?
Advise?

Re: Help needed- Thermostat?

Could be the water pump. IIRC, they are plastic on the GTA / GT 3.2's and not metal like on the 3.0 GTV units. It's a one for one swap if that's any help?

Re: Help needed- Thermostat?

Temperature sensor (or the connection to it)

If it fails, the temperature gauge will drop to minimum and the ECU will turn the fan on.

Re: Help needed- Thermostat?

Thanks for the help and offer guys. It sounds to me like the temperature sensor. David...do you perhaps know where it is located?

Re: Help needed- Thermostat?

On the TS/JTS it is on top of the thermostat, I think it is on the V6 too.

Re: Help needed- Thermostat?

Hi David.

For your information....the sensor is located on the side....unlike the 156's. Do you perhaps know if the sensors are the same? I would like to make sure it's the sensor before I buy one. (I can swop it with my dad's 156.) Thanks!

Re: Help needed- Thermostat?

It looks like the same sensor is used by all the Euro3 engines.
So if your dads 156 is Euro3 spec (ie it has the extra Cats in the manifolds etc) then it will be compatible.
