Help pesky Xenon - 156 GTA S/W

My driver side Xenon head light is playing up.

It intermittently will not light up. Local Alfa specialist diagnosed i. - new bulb and/or ii. new high tension unit (which presumably fires up the bulb).

Anyway one new xenon bulb later and 2 HT units - the damn thing still fails to fire up intermittently! (esp. when its cold i.e <5 deg C but not exclusively!!!)

Alfa UK don't want to know as its outside of 3 yr warranty!

Have any of you experienced this / got any advice?????

(Specialist would like to swap out the whole headlight unit when they get a similar xenon unit in and check the fuse box connections...)

Alfie156,

i had today the same problem I have noticed it last year, it happens mostly when its cold and wet. You have to turn on and off the light ~30 times and it works again.
Ive heard from other alfisti here that they had to replace the whole unit to get rid of the prob. as usualy alfa doesnt want to know about crap they sold to the people. One guy told me to refix the welding contacts. But you need a flex-plastic arm to get to the xenons if you dont want to dismantle the front

cheers

If you've already changed one light bulb and two HT units, it sounds like it's got to be wiring related. Bad earth or dirty connector?

Re: pesky Xenon - 156 GTA S/W

I realise this posts been up for a long time, but I'm also having exactly the same problem, and on the same side (drivers). Switching on/off several times seems to resolve it until the next time. Seems worse in cold/wet weather (recently here in the UK). Don't think it's a loose connection as it never fails once it's lit. Any more ideas?

Just got a 156 gta,and i have the same fault, but on the passenger side! switch on and off a few times and works fine then!
spoke to hylton alfa in worcester and they aint got a clue,i think alfa should sort it out foc,as seems to be a common fault with the xeon lights on the gta,s. could be a very costly job,you dont get these sort of faults with a bmw or porsche!!!
