Modding a GT V6
My GT is off to Autodelta later this week for a new battery, clutch adjustment and aluminium under tray. I am currently fighting the urge to get it remapped and put a carbon filter on it.
What do people think? Will it be worth the £500 it will cost, does it change the car that much? I guess it will release about an approx extra 20/25 bhp. But what about the torque and power delivery, I have read lots of people saying that a remap really improves this, which is making me think go for it.
But at the moment I don't want to change the exhaust, nor do I want to make the MPG any worse than it is and this is whats holding me back.
What do you think?

Re: Modding a GT V6
You are very unlikely to raise bhp and lower mpg at the same time...

Re: Modding a GT V6
I also think you'd be lucky to see that much BHP, intake and chip your looking at about 10bhp, 15 *max*.
Mines been remapped, but it had been so long since I'd driven an un-mapped one I wouldn't like to comment. However the intake is definately worthwhile, really enhances the audio...

Re: Modding a GT V6
I think I may have talked myself out of it anyway. I came from a heavily modded fiat coop turbo and prior to that a standard fiat coop turbo and I remember how much I prefered driving the standard one. So I think i will keep this 100% standard for the time being.
Although will be interested to hear what you say cul

Re: Modding a GT V6
Compared with a Fiat Coupe anything that would improve the torque would be welcome.
It's the one area of disappointment really.

Re: Modding a GT V6
JimO,
had my GTA re-mapped at Autodelta some time ago, and although I don't think it realised any more power, it certainly brought the power in lower down the rev band and made it much more useable. It also improved my fuel consumption.
Also had the carbon pipe, which seemed to improve the throttle response, but this was more for show than go.
Hope this helps
Simon

Re: Modding a GT V6
Jim, do you really need more torque from the V6?

Yes too be honest... I find that although the engine will pull from almost zero revs, its very peaky.
Hope the remap will improve mid range grunt.

Re: Modding a GT V6
Yup the V6 needs to be driven >5k right to the limit most of the time to be enjoyable under that its les impressive than a Coupe turbo as it has less than 160-180lbs of torque in that range where the coupe has 210-230lbs through a massive chunk, the V6has a nice roar through 3k but its completely different animal to the Coupe Turbo which is more like a turbo diesel, big shove early on but tailed off by 5.5k-6 when the V6 is coming alive.
While it doesn't feel as quick as a Coupe due to where it delivers the torque trust me I spent a day flying up and down the drag strip with the fccuk lot in my GTA and only one Coupe was quicker, the GTA was completely stock with less than 7k on the clock so not even run in.

Re: Modding a GT V6
I've booked mine in at Angeltuning for remap, CDA and brake upgrade end April, already have an Autodelta centre pipe back exhaust. Agree its all there after about 4500rpm, I'm really after a bit more mid range torque rather than some huge bhp increase. Speak to Nigel at Angel he's very helpful.

Re: Modding a GT V6
I don't think most decent remaps increase mpg for normal driving for N/A engines. I wouldn't be suprised if it did increase mpg very slightly due to allowing you to stay in a higher gear.
BTW Don't raise the rpm limit to anything too silly just because you want to say that you can do 100mph in 3rd..
Cheers,
TB
