The last few weeks my I get an occasional P1133 error message in my GT 3.2. The error is not permanent, when I clear the errors it's gone for another few hundred kilometers. I drive with an ELM permanently attached to the OBD port and can read / wipe the error message with Torque on my phone.

I've also connected FiatECUscan and it indicates a fault in the Lambda 1 signal. So far I've checked and cleaned all the connectors and checked the inlet trajectory for leaks, but found noting. As far as I recall all messages occurred at low-rev cruising speeds, barely touching the throttle.

I've logged the sensor data (attached gif) and I've noticed that the polling interval on the sensor of the first bank seems to be off compared to the 2nd bank. Or is this completely unrelated? Any other suggestions before ordering a new sensor?

Found a big crack in the air-hose, will replace it this weekend. The cylinder heads had a complete rebuild last year after a ground electrode of a spark plug decided to break off and fall on top of the piston... Spark plugs are brand new, as are the O2 sensors, so this cracked hose could be the source of the problem.

I've just had this error in my GT3.2 too.
I'll change both lambdas when I change the manifolds. Will change the plugs at the same time as half the works done to get at them.

Bloody Alfas eh...

Always worry when I get "motor control failure" flash up. Thinking is it another £1k bill like the first time it came up...

GA!S I'm assuming you sorted your problem out???

Hey Chris
I replaced two of the front lambda sensors last week and I'm still getting two codes p1133 and p1153 today I noticed few cracks on the hose that is attached to the throttle body.
Do you think that this little crack can cause the errors to pop up ?

I'm assuming that it's still standard -ish? Standard front pipes and cats?

1. Just because you've replaced the lambdas, don't assume that they're OK. They need to be genuine Bosch as others are known to cause problems. Did you replace all 4?

2. Exhaust leaks can cause the same fault code. Have you checked the joints and flexis for leaks?

3. Check the outputs from the lambdas in multiECUscan.

4. Check the lambda connections in the black box on the back of the plenum. They're colour coded, grey to grey and black to black.

5. Do the exhaust gases smell at all of sulphur (rotten eggs)?

Hi Chris.

1. I bought two genuine bosh front lambda sensors only. I didn't know that I have to replace all four of them :-/

2. I have hole at the rear section of the exhaust pipe just before back box and recently one of the flexi pipes on the downpipes gave up too.

3. multiECUscan Detected two errors p1153 and p1133 (faulty two front lambda sensors ).

4. I'll check the lambdas connections when I get back home.

5. Exhaust Gases doesn't smell like you described,

Thanks.

How about the vacuum assistance & fuel vapour recovery pipes that connect to the back of the inlet manifold? The engine/cambox breather pipes? The 6 x rubber pipes that connect the inlet manifold to the chrome tubes? The 6 x paper gaskets that seal the chrome tubes against the fuel injector mounting plates? The 2 x paper gaskets which seal the fuel injector mounting plates against the cylinder head?

An exhaust leak between the primary & secondary lambda sensors can also trigger this error, so check downpipes are sealed to the manifolds, sealed to the cats and the flexis aren't blowing.

Quick update regarding my original post. P1133 never came back after swaping the MAF sensor with a new one from an Opel Corsa.

I've seen P1177 and P1178 on several occasions: Timing off at crank-shaft after some knucklehead used 3.0 24v locking tools with a cambelt job. Broken ignition coils and a leaking LPG injector. Broken flexi on a downpipe.

Top on my to do list now is replacing the last 2 coils that are still the original ones, replace the downpipes, de-cat the manifolds and reprogram the ECU. That should finally solve the p1177 and p1178 for a while. Car is at 280.000 km now.
