Help Parking sensor failure

When selecting reverse in my GT, instead of a short beep from the PS saying "I'm here!", it's now emitting a 5 sec long whinging cry. It ain't telling me jack sh... about any kids I'm about to back over either.

I've tried both of the things my IQ allows me to: disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, and staring long and hard at the backing sensors, to no avail...
The manual doesn't tell me which of the fuses to look at either...

Before I go to a dealer to get scr.... over, does anybody have any other hints to any troubleshooting I can do..?

Re: Parking sensor failure

A few days ago mine started a fast beep when selecting reverse. Praying failed, (not enough faith) but the following morning the careing, fault tolerant electronic system must have reset itself, and has been OK since. Apparently time healed it. Not much help.

Re: Parking sensor failure

happened to mine when one of the sensors came loose... and eventually fell off!! It had sunk into the sensor mounting and was picking up the inside of it, hence the beeping..

If not the case, could it be some sort of dirt or other obstruction next one of the sensors??

Good luck with it

Re: Parking sensor failure

This happened to me a few weeks ago when the car was disgustingly dirty. The sensors couldn't detect anything due to the dirt.

The loud high pitched beep is indeed the error tone, so it could be anything. As simple as dirt blocking the sensors' signals, or a sensor could be faulty.

Me too. not long after I had the car, the far right sensor broke and the spring caused it to shoot into the housing, causing the continious beep. I stripped it down and fount that the plastic bayonet clip had broken off. Due to the past problems with my Alfa dealer, I fixed it myself, by glueing the sensor into the housing with some clear silicone sealer. It's been OK for over a year now.
