Car Windows Smashed!

Hi there,

About a month ago I was unfortunate enough to have my car broken into in Canning Town, East London. They were looking for Tom Toms, luckily I didn't lose much!

Since the new windows have been put in, I still have glass stuck in the door frames that Autoglass claimed they couldn't remove!? Anyone know how to remove this?

Also I have noticed a considerable increase in wind noise at motorway speeds..

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

David

Re: Car Windows Smashed!

Sorry to hear that mate, same thing happened to me in Feb 05, a month after I got the car. Alas, in my case the b*stards successfully relieved me of my laptop bag. I called Autoglass on the way home, expecting that they could meet me at work the following day. The glass (passenger door) was eventually sourced from Italy and installed 2 weeks later....
Have to say, they did a great job (which has always been my experience with Autoglass) and I had no similar problems with stray glass or excessive wind noise. Might be worth calling them up again and explaining that you're not happy? They seem pretty hot on customer satisfaction.....

Thumbs Up Re: Car Windows Smashed!

Good idea! They were friendly but insisted they could not do anything about the glass when I went back.

Perhaps I should contact their head office...

Sounds like a lot of glass in each door-not good!

Thanks for your suggestion

Re: Car Windows Smashed!

Hi There Debanks.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.

I had a 156 prior to getting my GT and had the windscreen smashed by some opportunist theifing tw4t, Called insurance who got autoglass to rectify. Cost £50 on window excess and job was done brilliantly. They hoovered all the nookes and cranies and nothing was left behind. Wind screen was just like new so thumbs up to autoglass.

Hope you get it sorted and soon.

Re: Car Windows Smashed!

Glad they fixed it properly and tidied up!

Autoglass Romford left glass inside the sills and some on the seats and floor, though to be fair there was glass everywhere as both front windows were smashed! You'd have thought one was enough...

Contacted Autoglass just now and they are arranging to sort this out on Monday..fingers crossed..

Thieving b@stards!

Good to see you got it sorted quick.

Maybe TomTom et al should start
making their units PIN protected
so that if they're thieved then they
don't work.

Re: Car Windows Smashed!

I had both offside windows in my 156 broken just before I sold it by some scumbag and Autoglass cam out the next day and replaced them both. They did a great job but I was finding glass in the car every time I cleaned it up until the day it went

I dont think you can ever get rid of all glass after a break in as there are always miniscule shards hidden in the carpet and little knooks and crannies

With regards to the wind noise, I have the same on the passenger door in my GT and I believe it is down to the liner/insulation not being replaced properly after the door card was put back after some paint work was done. I can hear and feel the wind from around the mirror inner plate.

Re: Car Windows Smashed!

Thanks for that Jason, hopefully they will be able to remove some of the glass in the doors, I can hear it every time I shut the door! Also they may be able to reduce the wind noise as I didn't have it prior to the break in.

I have booked my car back in on Monday so hoping for the best..

Re: Car Windows Smashed!

Update...

Thanks for the suggestion to go back to Autoglass "joegals", rebooked my car in for the next working day. They hoovered out almost all of the glass so now its unnoticeable and also re aligned the windows slightly so no more wind noise!! Hooray...

Great news debanks - thanks for the update. Who says Customer Care is dead? I like Autoglass as a company - all the operatives I've met (quite a few, as my Spider had a habit of cracking its windscreens periodically) are basically nice blokes and good at what they do. I always make a point of getting their name and emailing Autoglass HO afterwards to commend them - I try to do this with a number of suppliers in fact. Takes seconds, probably brightens their day and keeps the world turning.....

P.S. - no, I don't work for Autoglass, nor do any of my friends or family......!
