Water in diesel filter...

Driving along today and very briefly got the error message "water in the diesel filter". Only happened briefly and I've got the all clear on starting the car later in the day. I was about 80 miles into a 160 mile trip at the time and had filled up before setting off...

The car has been serviced for the first time recently...anyone know if this is worth worrying about - i'm hoping the message disapearing means it was a temporary computer blip...

Re: Water in diesel filter...

id the garage change the fuel filter at the recent service.

Not sure I'd worry too much if it hasn't reappeared...if it's an old filter you may as well change it. Someone recently posted the way to drain the filter. From memory it involved taking the filter off and tinkering with a valve underneath.

yes you need to unbolt it from the mountings to get to the drain tap, so you are only a short step away from changing it anyway.

Re: Water in diesel filter...

I wouldn't ignore it. Even if the car is still under warranty you would have to pay for new injectors. And they would most certainly go when too much water is in the system.

It is well possible that you have picked up more than the usual amount of water from the last refuelling stop. This is why it is good to avoid petrol stations that have a tanker hanging aroung and ther ones that aren't as often used than busy stations.

Thanks for all of these...I need to visit a dealership to get a safety recall done so I guess I can get it checked into...worst case scenario getting them replaced isn't the end of the world
