Reading the forum it seems to be the general consensus that the belts should be changed every 36k or three years...

Re: gta belts etc
Mmm, Not sure I'd let a 24v V6 go the full 72k, they can chuck belts and as bob is only going to look at the car I don't think they'll be telling him there's much wrong with it
You might want to throw in a metal impellor'd water pump while they're in there

Re: gta belts etc
I write this regularly on this forum:
Alfa Romeo Australia recommend timing belt changes for both 4 cylinder and V6 engines at 60,000kms OR 3 years, whichever comes first. It's your money.... Mine was changed at 3 years after 33,000 kms travelled.

Re: gta belts etc
Anyone know all the parts that are required for a full belt change on the V6...I want to replace all tensioners, belts and water pump but there seem to be different tensioners available i.e fixed and adjustalbe, large and small....
A list would be very useful
Cheers
Phil

Re: gta belts etc
My local mechanic/garage owner said that cambelt failure was most common by far on the T-sparks, and the primary cause of it was that the tensioners on the T-sparks were crap!
Basically he said they were very poorly secured (I think he used the term "falling off") , and this was not an issue on the V6's.
In his experience at least V6 belt failure was very rare, although I certainly would not wait the 72000km myself.
(I don't have enough details myself to give a list)
Cheers,
TB

Re: gta belts etc
The list Phil_D mentioned would be very useful to me too. The cambelt change on my 147 GTA is due quite soon and I'm planning on sourcing the parts beforehand and a list of needed parts would be very useful.

Re: gta belts etc
Yes, especially V6s.....
36k km or 3 years. My garage already head a GTA with serious damage due to belt breaking, with less then 36k but 4 years or so...

The first destroyed alfa engine I saw was a 2.0 TS at alfaaid, failed due to the plastic tensioner had disintegrated. I hade a 75 2.0 TS at the time and after that was glad it was the older 8v with a chain driven cam.
Personally my GTA has done about 30k and 3 years old now, intend on changing the belt next year and certainly wouldn't risk 5yrs 72k.

Re: gta belts etc
I think we need to be very careful because it seams that miles & km recommendations are getting confused here.
ie: "jwq" has just said "36k km or 3-years", surely that recommendation would have been 36000miles or 3-years, which is 60000km.
I've seen that Aus service bulletin and it does say 60000km / 3-years for both the TS/JTS & V6 engines.
It is true that the early TS tensioners fell apart, but also the teeth will be falling off of the belts by the time it gets to 6-years/120000km/72000miles. So even if the tensioners survive the belt will be close to slipping anyway.

Re: gta belts etc
Yep, sorry, 60k km or 3 years.....
However, I think for the majority 3 yrs will come up before the 60k anyway ...
