Gta Brake Upgrade Scenario(confiscation!!?)
Dear Dudes,
I got my brake upgrade done two months ago, and still had a part for the boot to get fitted, I wish i had just forgotten about it, I got my spare wheel taken off me ( i know about it not fitting over the front brakes , so no surprise there!), but i now have no jack + no tyre wrench, sureley thats a bit silly , what if i need to switch my tyres, front to back, ??, or check tightness after a few thousand k's??????,(miles), and is the valve key necessary??, i got the compressor + tyre weld, but thats it, the boot tidy has two empty spaces 1 for what looks like the jack+ the other looks like for the tyre wrench, , just want to hear other results???,
Thanks men,
please let me know!!!???

Re: Gta Brake Upgrade Scenario(confiscation!!?)
I feel I've been robbed even more. I go my 2005 car from factory only with a compressor, valve key, tyre weld and... 305mm brakes. Which makes me think my car is actually pre-2004. But why no spare tyre then???
BTW the valve key is needed to unscrew the valve when you want to put the tyre weld inside the broken tyre.

Re: Gta Brake Upgrade Scenario(confiscation!!?)
My GTA was ex Fiat UK car, and came with the 330mm brakes and the crappy tyre weld and compressor. There is no jack and no wrench. Just before I went to Italy in it in the summer I purchased a spare (cheap ish) alloy, a jack and a wrench, didnt want to be stuck anywhere. If you want a spare wheel kit you could try ebay.

You got the 330mm brake upgrade and the dealer took away the jack and wrench?
That sounds really stupid - I'd prefer the spare wheel so that you could at least swap wheels front to back if you had a major blow out.

I've been wondering about this too, tyre weld etc. is a crappy solution so I asked about a spare alloy and they quoted me about £250 for an alloy without tyre. A space saver was about the same.
What type of spare alloy did you get PR?
Was it an Alfa alloy or aftermarket and what was size, pcd and offset?
Ta.

Re: Gta Brake Upgrade Scenario(confiscation!!?)
Dont know much about it to be honest. Got a friend in the tyre business, got me the alloy and tyre for £100. I know its the right diameter but isnt as wide (205 I think).
Also, even a 205mm wide alloy does not fit properly in the well, so my boot liner sits slightly proud, which is a slight annoyance! I would advise getting a skinny one from ebay or even on the classified ads on here if someone is breaking a 156. You can always put the skinny on the rear if you get a front puncture

yep, thought so, i am a little bewildered over this un, I would have far rathered kept all my orig equip in the boot, rather than crappy polystyrene boot thingy!!!...ah well, i'll have to look out for a wheel + brace, . i mean , what on earth will alfa do with a used car jack, old wheel wrench+ used skinny space saver wrench!!???

Re: Gta Brake Upgrade Scenario(confiscation!!?)
If you have no spare, try a protex treatment in each tyre, £25.00 a corner and no punctures.
Its not a foam and is guaranteed to stop numerous 6mm punctures without you stopping.
Better than the el.crappo tyre weld foam that writes the tyre off!

With the tyre repair cans, don't you have to take to weight off of it before you use it anyway?
How are you going to do that without a jack?
Personally I have a full size alloy spare.

Re: Gta Brake Upgrade Scenario(confiscation!!?)
Dont think so Dave, I think the compressor just re inflates tyre. They are rubbish, and also costly, as many tyre repair places wont repair a tyre with the gunk inside, they just replace.

I've had the upgrade with new wheels, and I still have a spare? Never had a compressor etc!

Re: Gta Brake Upgrade Scenario(confiscation!!?)
They left the spare on my first GTA, which I was rather chuffed about. My second one came with the brakes already done but with no spare

Re: Gta Brake Upgrade Scenario(confiscation!!?)
It seams to depend on which garage does the upgrade. A friend of mine works in a main dealer and always left the spare, jack, etc in the boot because it will obviously still fit on the back.
I only know because I asked if he had any GTA skinny spares left over, because they would fit over my 305mm Brembos fine.

Re: Gta Brake Upgrade Scenario(confiscation!!?)
yep, thanks again dudes, that all sounds about right, i did ask for the items back, but they (apparently) have to go back to alfa uk, why , i do not know, but there you go, the joy of alfa romeo, but sureley with all the expense of doing the new brakes, surely a multi million pound outfit like alfa , could've designed a new skinny saver to fit over the new brakes ,??, or is that too obvious???

Re: Gta Brake Upgrade Scenario(confiscation!!?)
I kept my skinny wheel when the upgrade was done on my first GTA. (I wouldn't give it back to the dealer !) The dealers are supposed to send back the wheels as 330mm disc cars should only ever have the pump and gunk setup.
The reason for this is that Alfa are worried, someone with 330mm discs - fits the space saver to the front, and then drives off. As the wheel does not fit over the calliper - think as to what might happen. Alfa do not want to end up in court after someone has tried to drive a car with 330 disks - fitted with a space saver !
I'm sure the owners would never make such a mistake - but those not familiar with the car or lacking any form of common sense might !
