Manifold conversion

Here are a couple of photo's of the headers from a 156 2.5 that will be going onto my GTA.

As you can see no pre-cats. Should increase hp and produce a better sound.

It looks nice man. Does it have any hole for sensor?

Re: Manifold conversion

One does but the other needs altering. Here is a photo of what needs to be fixed.

Re: Manifold conversion

I'm in the middle of converting a (Euro 2) 2.5 156 to run a GTA (Euro 3)motor. I was looking at the 2.5 engine as it was sat on the garage floor last night wondering if the manifold will clear the GTA's oil cooler gubbins on the back of the engine - the 2.5 has a small heat exchanger set up.

Another problem you could be up against, aside from the emmisions issue, is that the down pipes from the maifold could be different. You might need them of a 2.5 and some mechanism to hook them up with the euro 3 GTA exhaust.

So gimmie more or nothin at all.

He's talking about the 2 lambda sensors in the GTA manifolds, as far as I know, the 2.5 manifolds don't have a hole for them....

Re: Manifold conversion

Took the manifold off the 2.5 tonight and tried it.

It fits.

Re: Manifold conversion

yes as mentioned earlier, you run into all sorts of issues. There was a thread earlier where someone said they just stuck it on a GTA, but how i never figured out..I got a converted 2.5 and a GTA out in the garage, and can not see how a 2.5 manifold will fit a GTA straight over.

It will however go well with a 2.5 coverted to 3.2 like yours Chris, In fact it will make life easier for you in respect to the remap, so id definitely go for it.

Chris, let me know when you get to the point where you connect the 2.5 fuel line to the GTA Injectors... you might have a small issue there..the 2.5 connector system being different to the GTA.

Re: Manifold conversion

I'll just splice the later style connectors into the 2.5 loom so I can run the larger 3.2 injectors.

Re: Manifold conversion

The downpipes should be basically the same. Only difference is the 2.5 downpipes merge into 1 where there is one vibration absorber but that wont make a difference. Obviously gotta get it in the garage b4 anything can be guaranteed.

Re: Manifold conversion

Took my car in to the garage yesterday for cam belt change, service and to get my new headers installed. Peter K your right, cant be done, 2.5 headers are completely different, angles of the pipes are an issue and the headers will not line up with holes on the block.

Looks like i'll have to keep saving for the supersprint manifold.

"Angles of pipes" Do you mean the oil cooler pipes of the mainifold out let pipes in relation to a GTA front pipe?

Find some euro 2 2.5 v6 manifolds and modify them to accept the pre cat lambdas, then hook them up to this front pipe set up:

Attach it to a decat and then a custom set up ala Chrish's suggestion

I reckon around 1.5k including a remap if you do it yourself.
