Dashboard squeak

Any other GT owners got the annoying dashboard squeak? It comes from where the windscreen air-vent trim meets the rest of the dash, over on the left below where most people's tax discs are. I had that damn squeak all the time on my old 147 with the same shaped dash, and now two weeks into owning my GT, I've got it again. Silicon spray the way to go............?

Re: Dashboard squeak

Is it definitely the trim ? the whole piece, the full length of the dash pulls off quite easily. You can drive with it off and double check.

Re: Dashboard squeak

Pretty sure it is. In my old 147, if I got a passenger to push down on it whilst driving, it'd stop squeaking. I also note that the dealer's put some sort of lubricant on it already.......you'd have thought Alfa would have sorted it by now!

Re: Dashboard squeak

If nothing squeaks - it's not an Alfa... It's a Lexus

Best solution... New exhaust, quad if possible...

Re: Dashboard squeak

I tried silicon sprays (be careful with this - too much and it drips down through the dash and lands on the clutch pedal - makes for fun starts off the line at least!), bits of bluetack etc on the edges to stop it rubbing.

Eventaully I discovered the solution - loosen (yes loosen) the bolts. If you take the plastic trim out (can be quite easily levered out and the whole width comes off in 1 piece) there are a couple of (if I remember correctly torq head) bolts. Loosen them by about half a turn and the noise goes away! It think that by allowing a bit of movement as the body flexes it doesnt create the friction needed to make the annoying squeek.

By interested to know if this works for anybody else.

Neil.

Re: Dashboard squeak

Thanks for that. It's actually stopped doing it now - also squeaks from the opposite end to yours, passenger side not driver's. Still, if it comes back I'll give that a go and get back to you.
