BMC CDA for 156 GTA

Hi,

I know this subject is not really a new one but I intend to replace by KN filter by a CDA SP 01 (I have a 156 GTA). I'm not specially gifted for mechanical works so I'd like to know if it's quite difficult to put it

is it ncessary to retry the front bumper ?
If you have some pictures, thanks in advance.

Bye

Re: BMC CDA for 156 GTA

I had the system fitted, and was not at all happy with it. At least not the way it was fitted to my car. The air intake is from the bottom of the Carbon housing, which is only 70mm above ground! That means if you go though a deep puddle, you will suck water into your engine!

I since refitted the system, took a great deal of effort too, and included having a custom bracket fabricated.

Re: BMC CDA for 156 GTA

No performance gain. If you get a remap done, it will probably give a few more bhp then the stock system will.

Biggest gain is the sound. It really does sound excellent, so you will feel like you are going faster

If your old system is in good condition, then clean it up and sell it. 156 TS owners will love to fit the stock GTA airfilter box and side intake pipe. For a TS, the GTA system is a perfomance mod. Plus older 156's suffer from corroded/broken bolts in the airfliter box, so they are always looking for a new one.

and to remove the complete OEM airbox, I have to move the front bumper ?

Sorry for this basic question, I do not know how to do it...

Re: BMC CDA for 156 GTA

No need to remove the bumper. (i think) the car i was mentioning, is in fact a custom 156 with stock bumper, and not a GTA bumper, but i still feel you should be able to reach it all from above.

start by removing the plenum intake pipe and AFM.

Re: BMC CDA for 156 GTA

I havebought a CDA BMC SP 01 but I'm not sure the best way to fix it. Have someone got some pics of good installation ?

Can I fit my autodelta carbon intake with it ? and about the AFM ?

thanks a lot. I admit some pics would help me a lot

Re: BMC CDA for 156 GTA

I'm cahllenging anyone to prove to me that the CDA actually is better than the standard system. I have a lot of instrumentation i can use for comparative tests(thermocouples datalogger, pressure transducer).
I think that there is not much to be gained with CDA.

Re: BMC CDA for 156 GTA

Jack75,

i have the CDA fitted in to my car, i would recommend you to get it done in a garage. You must lift the car to get the original air box out, there is no way to get it from the top.
From the maf side you must increase the diameter of the hole on the CDA to ~90mm.
It is important to install the CDA as high as possible, because you need to put the cold air hose on the airintake side of the cda otherwise it will suck hot air and dirt. I would recommend also to put the hose more the left to the fender side.
I have screwed the maf on my CDA and was not sure if it was really sealed, later i have closed it with the hot glue gun.
ciao

I have a carbon air intake (autodelta) I'll try to put before the BMC.
But where is your AFM ? I can't see it

Re: BMC CDA for 156 GTA

Jack75,

the AFM is directly on top of the filter box, you can see in the picture
i have fixed it with the screws from the original airbox, metal piece on top of the box. This pipe is from BMC, now i have replaced it with the carbon kevlar pipe from Asso (Japan)
cheers
