147 gta door/b pillar rattle

Over bumpy surfaces there's a rattling noise coming from behind me somewhere. I thought it was coming from the door locking mechanism but I now have a feeling it could be coming from the b-pillar.... Or if I drive slowly up onto or off a footpath(every evening and morning) it makes a creaking noise. Very annoying. Has anybody had this problem. If so any advice on how to remedy it would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Re: 147 gta door/b pillar rattle

Just open the passanger door and give it a few shakes to see if any squeeks/rattles arise.

This happned me, and a drop of WD40 on the hinges and the funny noise disappeared.
In my case it did sound like a rattle, but it wasn't really one.
Took me a while to track it down!

Cheers,
TB

Re: 147 gta door/b pillar rattle

I also have some strange squeeks coming form that area. Only started after I took the GTA on track and got a bit worse after the the Novitec/KW suspension was installed.

I always assumed it's caused by the flexing of the body. Sounds like two parts (e.g. door and b-pilar) are rubbing against eachother. Could be also be an inside door- or bodypanel.

Never gave much attention to it as it only happens on very bumpy roads and is so hard to replicate standing still.

Sorry I can't be of any help here.

Yes it does seem to be a result of the body flexing. Unfortunately its one of those things that can reallty get on your nerves after a while and it seems to be getting worse. Thanks anyway guys. Hopefully I'll be able to resolve it.

Re: 147 gta door/b pillar rattle

I posted regarding this problem a few months back. I had the problem for about 6 months to a year and no Alfa-Romeo dealership in Sydney could pick it, until I brought the car to my current Alfa Mechanic.

It turns out to be the seat belt tensioner inside the B-Pillar.

If you guys have a look every thing regarding the seat belt inside the B-Pillar you will resolve the problem. Just oil up all the parts and make sure every thing is screwed in properly.

Thanks. I'll check it out - I've had a sort of squeeking sound the past 2-3 months that mostly manifests itself on bumps and pulling in and out of the garage - thought it might be the springs inside of the leather seats or maybe the suspension coils - would love to get rid of that sound!

Re: 147 gta door/b pillar rattle

thanks Barbalatte. I first thought it was coming from the door lock mechanism while driving, but then when I travelled in the back seat of the car once I could concentrate better on where it was coming from and indeed it did seem to be from inside the b-pillar. Can't wait to get it fixed!!

Re: 147 gta door/b pillar rattle

A bit old thread but I'm having the same kind of sounds.
I've been traking source of the sound down for a couple of days now because its driving me nuts. Klonk klonk...from the pillari. Really annoying. I've sorted out that its not coming from the seat belt. Its coming somewhere inside the pillar when accelerating, on small bumbs and when braking.
First thought it was the door sealings but I've sprayed silicone into them and it didn't help.
I could really use some help. I have not opened the pillar yet because I'm not sure how to...

Re: 147 gta door/b pillar rattle

my klonk sound came from the REAR speaker wire loom flapping against the outer panel unsecured, pulled off the REAR inner door skin, and secured it, problem gone.
