New Red 147 GTA Monza Selespeed on the way !

Hi Guys, I am in melbourne Australia, and have just signed for a Red Alfa 147GTA Monza Selespeed, number 21/100, I just traded my 2002 black 147 Selespeed.

Can't wait to pick it up - next 2 or 3 days.

It was most of your views/reviews on this site, that tipped me over the edge AND I got a great deal.

Looking forward to enjoying the GTA experience.

Hi GB.... Congratulations on making the right decision!!

My 147 GTA is my daily drive, and each journey is a special event to look forward to and to enjoy. The engine noise and rapid selespeed shift complete with downchange blips will leave you in no doubt that you're having much more fun than anyone else on the road.

Thats the one, it has Bridgestone RE050's on it, any thoughts or opinions on them ?

Also I am thinking of an aftermarket sunroof, but I am not sure about cutting into that beautiful red skin, also because it isn't a factory sunroof, I wonder if it has any implications on structural / warranties etc.

Any advice or points of view welcome.

My GTA came with the factory sunroof and it's a very neat bit of kit. However, I've given it a full check-out at all speeds and consider it to be a noisy and pointless distraction from the GTA driving experience. The V6 music is drowned by wind noise.... No contest !!

The RE050's are not bad for everyday driving & the odd w/end bash... I also have the same tyres.

As for the sun-roof... If it ain't factory don't risk it!

Looks like I just saved myself two grand, thanks guys.

Also has anyone done anything with their stereo.

My old 147 had a blaupunkt head unit, 8 bose speakers and a bose sub, sounded good, well good enough not to warrant doing anything more, I suspect the stereo in my GTA is not up to par with the old one in my 147.

Any suggestions ?

I have found a place that sells fascia so you can fit aftermarket DIN sized headunits etc, but it is a silver in colour, (standard 147) not the dark grey of the GTA.

Re: New Red 147 GTA Monza Selespeed on the way !

You are going through what I was 2 months ago...

Stereo - easy MOD to get carried away with. The GTA does come with the Blaupunkt HU & Bose speakers (though some may not have the Bose badges on teh speaker grills). My issue was trying to connect my iPod not via a FM transmitter (as you would have experienced, European cars do not have the best reception - even with an external arial. Though aparently there is a fix?). There are some options such as http://www.thecarkitcompany.com.au [$450 installed] or Alpine does an intergrated HU with iPod adapter [$500 installed]. At the end of the day, I only drive during the w/ends so the cost/benefit was not positive for me, especially when the engine is a great sound [especially if you get the exhaust replaced as I have [Marko at http://www.interspec.com.au/ is very helpful].

Though if you are thinking about engineering MODS, options are quite limited in Australia.

Happy to help.

Crash.

Also go to http://www.aus-cartalk.com/viewforum...66f37d6 8efc7

You will find they same lurkers on this site - but Aus based.

"It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate rememberance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle." I have 13,000km on my RE050s and I find them to be a great tire, especially in the wet. Congrats on the great purchase - especially that it is a Selespeed GTA - you just won't believe how great this car is! Perfect shifts both up and down, and an AMAZING engine note! As someone else mentioned above, each and every day you will look forward to driving her, knowing that it will be a special event! Congrats again!!!

Re: New Red 147 GTA Monza Selespeed on the way !

I personally will not go for the aftermarket sunroof. Not only becuase of the noise and workmanship concern, once you install the aftermarket one they need to replace the whole roof lining which I think the origianlly GTA lining is so nice.

My car has the factory sunroof and it does rattle a bit on extra bumpy road.
