147 GTA Oil usage...
Can anyone give me an indication of oil usage on 147 GTA?
The 1.6 147 I had never needed any extra
The Tspark GTV needed a top up every month.
Had the GTA 3wks wondered what I was letting myself in for...
I assume full synth 5/40 or 0/40 is correct for it?

Re: 147 GTA Oil usage...
According to the manual, you need Selenia racing 10W60....
Mine used about 1 litres during the first 5k or so running it in from new. after 10k or so it doesn't use any oil at all anymore (no need to add oil between recommended changes)...

Re: 147 GTA Oil usage...
10w60 is the only recommended oil(Denmark)
My engine has done 7.000 km. So far ive added 3 times 0.4l about 5 weeks apart.
I have one a fair bit of Track time in it. No doubt the engine uses more oil during a Track Session, compared to daily driving. So far i would say oil usage is not an issue on the 3.2

Re: 147 GTA Oil usage...
They use very little oil in my experience.
1 litre over the first three months, and maybe 1 L every 6 months or so afterwards.
About 200ml for a track session.
Do run in your car gradually though as a precaution.
..and you still need to check it regularly though to be safe!
(as for any high performance car)
Cheers,
TB

Re: 147 GTA Oil usage...
Mine never used anything else but the Silena racing 10W60, it never burnt any oil. The minute that the dealers started using different oil, it started burning oil. Use a good grade 10W60 for the best results. I found that thinner oils allows better revving, but it burns more.

Re: 147 GTA Oil usage...
I followed the advice of the experts and was very careful to be gentle on the engine the first few thousand km, and was able to mostly always keep her below 4000rpm (boy was that tough!). I only started to push her hard after about 8000km and my third oil change (I too, use only Selina 10W60).
Also, I always wait for 2 bars on the oil temp gauge before taking her above 3000rpm, and try not to go above 4000rpm till I have 3 bars.
Maybe it's just a coincidence, but as a result, I have never had to top off the oil on my GTA (13,000km so far).

I wait for 2 bars too. Never push it below 2 bars. My engine is in perfect condition. I change the oil every 5,000-7,000km.

Re: 147 GTA Oil usage...
As people have said, use 10W 60 fully synth only (Selenia, Millers, and Castrol all make it).
Mine has used about 2.5 litres in the first 12k miles from new, mostly motorway or fast road miles and I keep below 4k revs until I have 2 bars of oil temp (my only wish being that the computer would stay on the last used setting rather than make you press the button 11 times at the start of each journey!!).
I do around 1500 miles in a typical week so check it every weekend...

That's being very careful! I find fully synth oil stays fine for road use for the full 12k, only track use seems to tire it, but no harm in being cautious! I ran mine in for 500miles of below 4k, then 500 below 5k revs, trying to vary the revs and gears a lot - constant running at a steady speed in one gear is not supposed to be good for running cars in.
I've heard a lot of people suggest synthetic oil is too good to let cars run in quickly, so you should use good mineral oil for the first 1000 miles if you are really dedicated.
Ultimately, my opinion is you can look after your engine as much as you like - and if you do warm it through properly before thrashing, ans use good oil, a modern engine should be good for 200k miles - but engines are rarely what fails on a car these days if looked after (turbos and cambelts excepted). Transmission, suspension, and electrical items are more likely to give up the ghost.

Re: 147 GTA Oil usage...
Strange, on my 147 GTA the first setting (i.e ONE press of the button) is the oil temperature....
