insurance quandry......

not sure if thats how you spell quandry but there we go.......

i have managed, through a few contacts, to get my insurance for my new 147 gta for €1,390 FC with a €158 excess. if i put my partner on the policy i get a 15% reduction, but then she will want to drive it....

any thoughts?

If she is a good driver why not?

BTW Did you try Mike Murphy insurance brokers? They are brokers for St. Pauls International who specialise in high performance cars and in my experience very competitive quotes.
I had to ring around a lot of companies to get insurance for my car initially, especially since I had one of the first GTAs in the country.

"Oh my sir, that car has an engine, no we couldn't possibly insure that ! " etc. etc.

go for it, my wifes on mine and it's handy for to drive back from pubs and if she's anything like mine the power scares her so she dosen't use it even when offered.

Just don't tell her that she's on the policy

I wish my girl would drive stick - would be nice to sit back... Maybe NOT!

Get a Fisherprice stick on toy steering wheel,place it on the passenger side of the dash board and they she can pretend that shes driving the car,while you are really in control of it.

Just like you see in the start of the Simpsons with little Maggie Simpson in the car with Marge.

In other words,dont let her near the driver seat with the car key.

if she is a good driver, then why not and if you save a bit of money by having her on the insurance then go for it as 15% of €1,390 is quite a tidy sum to save

its taken a day to reply as ive had a bit of driving experience around ireland.....

she has refused to drive it but seems pleased to be able to if she so wishes

an interesting point for those of you not in ireland, tax for the year is €1,343.....

its rated on engine size, my last car in the uk was a coup 20vt and that would have only cost me €539.........

Sounds like italy, thats why they make a 2.0 V6 Turbo engine, lot of money though

motoring is expensive here, whether is insurance (no competition) tax (government delving into your pockets) or cars in general (again the government, although the clonker is the basic price plus vat, 22.5%, on which they charge vehicle registration tax, VRT, which i think is in excess of 20%, oh and then they charge vat on top of that again.....

no wonder the irish economy is booming.......

if anyone else knows the exact breakdown feel free to correct me
