GT - as quick as it says?
when im doing 90 in my JTD, it just doesnt feel like it really is going that quick (this is on a private road, obviously!)
seems like it is atleast 5mph slower? it does have 17in rims on
....or is it just handling the speed very well?
ta

That'll be it.
Seriously the diesels are deceptively fast. I assume you're pulling just over 2500 rpm?

Re: GT - as quick as it says?
Sat Nav (GPS TomTom Go) says that my speedo over-reads by about 3-5 mhp where around the 80+ mph mark. Most cars do have a bit of a difference between speedo and reality.

Re: GT - as quick as it says?
I find on long journeys I have to use the cruise control all the time as I cannot keep to the speed limit otherwise. Once I slipped up and a stone ship struck the bonnet putting a small dent in it.
I can get carried away listening to my music and the engine noise does not convey the speed you are actually travelling at.

Jon: yes if im doing about 2500 in 6th, think that is about 90 - i felt it was reading about 5mph above what it was actually doing - can the dealer check it on diag kit?

Re: GT - as quick as it says?
speedometers are allowed to over-read by up to 10% (in the UK) but are not allowed to under-read. As a result most do over-read, it used to always be 10% ish but seems on modern cars to be less, typically 5% ish. Of course most cars are offered on a variety of wheel/tyre sizes which further messes things up.
What I want to know is how you feel so sure it is wrong - do you have a GPS built into your brain or something

Re: GT - as quick as it says?
i dunno, its just a feelin
the car just doesnt feel like it is doing the speed itself, or relative to other cars
...but it could just be that it is so composed at speed compared to the sloppy old a6 i had before

My sat nav shows a 3-5mph discrepancy (as per most cars these days I think). I've set the speed limit buizzer to 90 to remind me as it is deceptive. It buzzes me, at a true 86, on a regular basis on the same private test track as you of course!

Re: GT - as quick as it says?
I'm onto my 2nd tank of ultimate diesel, combined with an oil change 2 weeks ago. I'm definitely noticing an improvement in pace but I can't say whether it's the fuel or the oil.
It's feck loads of fun tho.

Re: GT - as quick as it says?
I am not sure if I would drive about thinking the sat nav is accurate over the speedo as when I was caught speeding, I clocked the Police saw my speedo which was over and looked at my Sat Nav which was 5mph under my speedo and thought great it won't be so bad, unfortunately the Nip matched my Speedo and I got 3 points

I think BP say you should run 4 or 5 tankfuls through before you'll notice a difference. My Dad runs BP Ultimate in his V6 Peugeot and noticed an improvement in the pickup and performance and also economy.
