no alarm but immobilised?

just out of interest.....and insurance cover - if my alarm is turned off (ie: doors looked via key rather than remote) is the immobiliser still on?! im thinking yes as it should only be deactivated when key is in ignition.....but alfa being alfa, who knows

As you've said the immobiliser is deactivated once the key is turned in the ignition. It would be logical to assume that it is activated once the engine is switched off and the key removed. As far as I know the alarm is separate.
Look on the bright side, you could have bought a Ford GT

I assume you didn't see the episode of Top Gear were Jeremy Clarkson retold the woes he had with his Ford GT. The immobiliser wouldn't let him start the car at the TG studio and he had to drive home in a Toyota Corolla
The alarm went off and the Tracker system reported the car as being stolen while JC was driving the car back to Ford for it to be fixed. This happened several times before JC got his money back and returned the car.

Re: no alarm but immobilised?

Just on the alarm subject - it is very easy to hit the open hatch button by mistake - I was putting my keys in my pocket today after locking the car and as I walked away I heard a click - turned out the key had touched the hatch open button while the keys were in my pocket - just to be aware of it.

ps - I do have a large heavy set of keys though - mainly all work keys

Yes the immobiliser is definitely on when key is removed (UK spec anyway)
