Hi Folks, collected my Moon Blue JTD on friday. Had read lots of these posts before i bought & was worried the 18" wheels would be a very hard ride but no way. much softer than My A4 Quattro 2.5 TDi with 17" wheels & while being a fair bit slower more than made up by the flexible torque spread of the engine. I went 200 miles from london to manchester to collect what I think is a killer deal. 20k for a new [not registred] JTd with leather & the wheels. Wish I had the Bose but you cant have everything & I'll put a subwoofer where the bloody spare wheel should be.
Thanks for the advice & I'll put some pics up soon.

Re: New GT Member
welcome abbey - sounds like you did get a good deal there
yeah the GT isnt particularly fast, but it is nice and torquey
i just found the 18s a bit too much - but i wasnt after a super sporty ride - just a nice controlled GT

Another convert! Welcome to Alfa ownership. I hope your GT brings you many miles of happy motoring. I managed a similar deal on my GT (same spec) so I couldn't resist . The Bose system is ok (I had it on my 156) but I don't miss it too much. Just out of curiosity, what made you choose an Alfa over another Audi (or indeed any of the other German marques)?

Re: New GT Member
That is definitely a good price. Is it a UK car or an import? I also went to manchester to buy my GT, but mine was 6 months old when I got it. However, I got a few extra options on mine too.
One question I have (as it's rather topical for me at the moment) about your 18" wheels: Have you told the insurance company that you've got an upgraded wheel option? I'm having a bit of an issue with my insurance company at the mo and they want to charge me extra for having the 17" wheel option. I'm not happy about this, obviously.
Congrats on the motor, get some photos up asap

Yes! I told my insurance about the bigger wheels and the fact it has the leather seats. Don't know about being charged extra as I got my insurance down after phoning around

Re: New GT Member
You told your insurance that your car has leather seats? Is that normal?
Does everyone declare all their options on thier insurance? Should I declare my heated seats, headlamp washer and parking sensors too?
Errr, I'm getting worried now.

Re: New GT Member
Why choose the Alfa?, enterily impulse. I have owned over 40 cars & always went for the more unusual models. I had an old shape GTV once, my only other Alfa. Owned Lancia HPE,s Every type of Citroen including an SM & my last car was a Renault Avantime {leased for a silly cheap deal} which I happened to like. { I may be on my own there!}
I saw a Moon Blue GT in my local dealer & was blown away with the shape & colour so when I got a deal on a new car {UK car} which beat his price for a 6 month old demo I couldnt resist & I happen to prefer diesel to moden high reviving, low torque multivalve petrol engines. The JTd is a peach with a far more flexible rev range than VAG or BMW units.
The Audi was either on or off boost with nothing in between & the most unreliable car I,ve owned for a long time so maybe Alfa can beat it, we live in hope! I think it fills a gap in the market once filled by the beautiful Peugeot 406 HDi coupe.
As for insurance I have an 'open' policy so i dont have to declare my car let alone the options.

i also came from audi - my reason....they are rubbish to drive - very dull with poor ride and shabby dynamics

Insurance companies will use any excuse not to pay out on a claim. If you were unfortunate enough to have a shunt which damaged front and back bumpers (and hence headlight washers and parking sensors) the insurance company could say that they would not cover the extra cost to put right the washers/sensors because you hadn't declared they were fitted to the car. I always declare anything over the standard spec of the car and stress it is a factory fit option (if that's the case) and there is usually no problem. If in doubt, check with your insurance company.

Hi Abbey
Welcome to Alfaowner, and the GT. Sounds like you got a great deal, may I enquire where you got it from? I need to find a new unreg'd one and it sounds like they may be able to help, happy motoring.

Hi andy, its was Caladionian in Salford. They had one more Grey one with leather & 17" for the same money but he was talking about putting the price up soon. When I was sitting in the office while they sorted the paperwork I saw the dealer invoice for my car. They paid £21700 & sold it to me for £20300! I guess he was looking for a sales bonus on number of cars sold but dosent make much sense to me.

Re: New GT Member
Aha, bought from Mr John Egan I presume. That's where I got mine from and so far I've found John to be a thoroughly sound chap. Good bloke to do business with and when I told him about this issue I'm having with the insurers about the wheels, he faxed me a letter and the original consignment sheet straight away to show that the bits are factory fitted.
He gave me a good price on my part ex too. Well, it was better than the VW garage offered me.

Sorry to hijack this post, but the standard spec GT JTD has 16" wheels. If you have paid extra for the optional 17" or 18" wheels you should inform the insurance company. If they are charging you more I would definitely check with a few other companies and see if they too would charge more. If they don't then you can use this against your current insurer to persuade them to be more reasonable. If you push hard enough they usually cave as they don't want to lose your business.

Re: New GT Member
That's it - I am moving to the UK - I paid €42,000 for mine back in January and that was after travelling the country to get the best deal
I was looking at Ebay today and there were loads of Lotus Elise sports cars on it for less than £10,000 - the same car would end up costing about €30,000 here after you had paid the VRT tax on it.
......and you guys get to keep your reg plates in Spain allowing you to drive there under UK insurance - its all so unfair.

Welcome to the fold Abbey. I think you might have made a few of us very sick as parrots getting the gt at that price, though - especially a UK sourced one!
Wonder why they were selling it at such a good price? Heck, usually you can't get GTs for love nor money. Most folk on this forum have to wait several months to get one!
