Clutch change time!

Im looking to change the clutch soon. problem is that i've received two very different quotes or estimates. one garage says that it will take 6-7 hours for the gta, but another quoted over 12 hours!!! but adds that they are doing additional things like machining the flywheel etc

What is the norm for a clutch change for the gta?
and what else do you think i should do at the time of the clutch change?

Thanks all!

Re: Clutch change time!

7-Hours (ie a full day) is about right for a clutch change on any 156.
Add an extra hour for a Selespeed version.

It is a gearbox out job, so fresh gear oil would be good.

Re: Clutch change time!

The flywheel would only need machining if the clutch friction plate had worn down so far that the rivets were cutting into the flywheel, or something else had got trapped between friction plate and flywheel.
Even so I would say an extra 5-hours would be way OTT.

7-hours is the book time for the clutch, but that will not take into account things like bolts that refuse to come undone etc.

Re: Clutch change time!

Machining the face of the flywheel is a sensible thing to do if you plan to keep the car for some time... A car like the GTA can eats clutches due to the engines high torque - A lot depends on th condition of your flywheel and how many miles youve done (and more importantly - how many times youve slipped the clutch trying 0-60 times....). Machining could be the difference between your new clutch doing 25k or 10k
