how do you tell if it is ther or not - without chucking somehting nasty on it obviously

can you tell on the outside if it is there? easier to clean? less directy etc?

Re: what no scotch guard? :/

drip a coupel of drop of water on it. If its scotchguarded it should bead and not soak in (and if it isnt you get a little bit of a wet seat for a while)

Re: what no scotch guard? :/

Well unless youve worked in the motor trade before you wont know about this so dont feel silly - but the whole thing is just a way for salesmen to increase profit (and as sales guys get paid a percentage of profit thats good for them)

Basicall speaking all dealers sell roughly the same thing under different names, its a very thick clear shiney coating polymer that goes on the bodywork after its had a good wash and wax, and then a can of scotchguard that they spray on the inside on carpets and seats.
Typically it retails for anywhere from £150 to £300 (my personal record was £550 on a Saab), but it actually costs £25-30 to the dealer...
It takes about 15 minutes to apply to the car once its been cleaned.....

The stuff on the paintwork can work quite well for about 8-9 months ish, but whatever you do dont wash your car in a car wash or it will start to strip the stuff off in patches (if you ever need any paintwork doing tell the bodyshop its got the stuff on so they can wash it off with parrafin or the paint doesnt take to it and youll end up with a bad finish)

the scotchguard lasts for about 3 months on the drivers seat and footwell (as it rubs off when you get in/out of the car) and double that elsewhere.

In all honesty you are better off spending £5 on a can of scothguard from the shoe menders/upholsterey place, and buying a decent wax like Mhyrr (sp?) etc and doing it on a monthly basis as it gives the same effect for about £200 cheaper

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but maybe others will learn from it....

Re: what no scotch guard? :/

When I was selling cars, I used to do one with each car. Its pretty easy to sell if you show the technical looking UV diagrams with the sun bleaching and all that stuff, plus the scotch guard is easy for people with kids if youve got an old car seat half protected half not, and some porridge mixed up to look like baby sick

35 of those at £270 profit per go =£9450 of profit which was usually over a grand in bonus to me Plus the suppliers of the stuff gave you a tenner for each one once you did 20 a month.

As Del boy used to say 'A nic little earner'

Re: what no scotch guard? :/

A mate of mine who works for Citroen has a bloody great pile of Supaguard kits that he has "liberated" from his dealership and is knocking out to mugs on Ebay.........I can't believe folk really pay £300 to have their car covered in £25 of gunk

How does the lad sleep at night?..........I asked about doing the GTV with it,but he reckons its a waste of time and money and told me not to bother even though I could have got a full kit for nowt............

Paying customers however...

.......that wasn't my intention
We've all been caught out with "wonder products" at some stage, myself included before I became a grizzled old cynic a few years ago

I must have been about 25 when I started morphing into a grumpy old man
Bah Humbug and all that....
