Red Brake Calipers
I've been toying with the idea of upgrading the brakes on the GT to Brembos but, jings, they're not cheap - £895! TBH I dont need the extra stopping power but the calipers look delicious in red. Does anyone know whether the calipers from a 3.2v6 will fit the JTD or must I go the whole hog and have new discs as well?
Sorry about the ignorance.

....*ducks for cover*
you could paint them red, add the decals and there you go.......
A couple of guys have done it recently and they look very effetive IMO. (also way cheaper than forking out for the brembos/disks)

Re: Red Brake Calipers
I garuntee that you'll need new discs but I don't count that as going the whole hog. You need to know whether the caliper mountings are the same or not. They probably are (in which case the discs are going the whole hog) but if they're not you will be needing adaptor brackets - something I'm not keen on at all.
Is £895 for a single caliper or the pair? A pair of discs will cost nothing compared to the cost of the calipers.

The pair I think. saw an offer on Smart A*** web-site, so assume it was for two.
I fleetingly considered the paint them and decal route but my lad did this on his VW Polo and although it looks ok it is pretty obvious what's been done and just a wee bit boy-racerish (mind you I suppose that's a bit hypocritical on my part).

Re: Red Brake Calipers
I think the easiest upgrade for you would be to get a pair of second hand GTA 305mm calipers from ebay...... (as GTA owners upgrade to 330mm ones they tend to go one there fairly regularly) and a new pair of disks/pads. This will probably set you back around £250-350.
to check if they fill fit Id advise you buy a copy of the parts CD. Im fairly sure that the hub for the GT and GTA is the same, and if it is (has the sam part number) then the caliper will bolt on without the need for an adapter plate. Even if it needs an apadpter these arent very expensive and are perfectly safe if made from the right materials.
Check the sticky GTA brakes thread at the top for an idea of the calipers
Another thing you need to check is if your master cylinder is the same unit as that on the GTA (again, check the parts CD), if its smaller then you may need to get a larger one or the larger calipers wont work properly.

Re: Red Brake Calipers
Also just remembered that Fiat Coupe 20V turbo's share the same calipers (305mm) although they are usually silver instead of Red, unless theyve come from one of the SE models which had red ones.....
loads on ebay for about £100-200

Cheers, M8. I think I'll have a go on e-bay to see what's around.

The caliper does not bolt to the hub, it bolts to the suspension upright.
You will also need a pair of GTA suspension uprights in order to fit the GTA Brembo calipers.

But they all use the same wheel bearing so the GTA upright will fit with a std driveshaft & CV joints.

Good point although I believe the calipers from the 20VT fiat coupe are exactly the same as those one the 305mm GTA set up so should bolt to the same place OK.

But is the GT upright any different from the GTA upright?
Parts CD should confirm/deny all of this

Re: Red Brake Calipers
The 156/147/GT all use the same susension upright, which in turn is different from the 156 GTA/147GTA/GT 3.2 suspension upright.
You will need a set of suspension uprights from one of the 3.2 models, or a custom made Bracket, to fit any of the Brembo calipers mentioned here.

Ehmmm. I had a look at these last night. I think they might just do the trick! I won't bother painting them, just put on the decals - heck for £7.99 how can you go wrong? It's only for show anyway. Thanks for the pointer.

Re: Red Brake Calipers
Hey Peter K, have you seen a bracket and matching discs that will work for the 305 mm Alfa brembo's to make them fit a twinny. I saw Alfa Dublins solution, and IMHO that did look way too flimsy for me. I'm sure its fine when you use it for show and not for go

15mm thick 16 guage cold rolled steel is Flimsey,is it Hoygaard? .I dont think so somehow. .Thats what my custom suspension uprights/specers are made from.My little monster isnt just all for show, its for go too.
The custom billet alloy bell housings and suspension uprights were cut/fabricated by my mechanics CNC and CAD machines.
My custom GTA caliper and 325mm floating disc setup is brilliant and the braking effect is amazing on my car.I can brake much later into corners and keep my foot planted on the throttle pedal and the car is stable and under controll all the time, even through corners while on full acceleration.
I can assure you that this custom big brake setup is by no means flimsey. Its amazing.I know cause I am the one whos driving the car. Thanks
P.S - I will post some pics of the custom made billet alloy bell housings and the custom made discs with the GTA 4 pot calipers on the car over the weekend.
I will take off the front wheels and get some nice detailed shots for you to run your eyes over, and see just how flimsey they are.

Re: Red Brake Calipers
All right then, the last remark was out of line, my apologies. What I tried to say before I got carried away, was that it does look flimsy to me- When it comes to brakes, flimsy is not what I like to see. So do post some piccies, please. As you might can tell, I'm quite interested in this topic because I have them 305 mm Brembo's in a drawer. And I'd rather have them on the car
