Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

Cheers man thanks for the info...All the parts have arrived, i will fit them next week and see how i get on...I don't plan on doing any track days in this car, i am not that hard on the brakes on the road so hopefully they will last a while...

Has anyone ever put the 2 pot Brembo's on the rear of one of these ? I am upgrading the ones on my evo so i will have a set of calipers to use...

There is no need for larger rear brakes on a FWD car, even for serious track work or racing.
Take a look at the rear brakes of top FWD race cars to see what I mean.

I'll try to find a comparison front/rear brake pic from a 156 Supertourer (the rears are tiny).

Edit: only found a rear pic so far, still looking through my pics for more. But the fronts were as big as you fit inside a 19" rim.

Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

I have just applied to have a brake upgrade as the Discs on My 147 GTA warped after I had a new set of pads fitted at about 28000 miles.
The Car is now over three years old and out of the warranty period.
I approached Desira, informed them of the upgrade, which they knew about. They agreed that the Brakes were warped, but due to the fact that the Car was out of warranty, would only agree to pay for 40% of the work. Has anybody applied for an upgrade out of their Warrenty period, and if so, was this the response from Alfa or the Alfa Dealer.

Cheers Wizzo147

Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

Wizzo147,
Yes I obtained an upgrade to 330mm at 3.5 years and out of Warranty, all at Desira Southgate. James Wilson, Service Manager was very helpful, and he did mention in November that there was a 147gta with the same issues as mine also going for the upgrade (assume that was you). I think my situation was helped by the fact that they had already replaced the 305 discs once within warranty, and the warping happened again. I believe they look upon each case individually, though I cannot reconcile that attitude other than on pure AR commercial grounds. Keep plugging away, and by all means refer to my case if it helps to get them covered 100%.

[quote=sstamp;901854]Wizzo147,
Thanks Simon,
If it is alright, I will quote your example. I also dealt with James Wilson, who has been very helpful. He's informed me that he cannot go any further with this, personally, but suggested that I take this up with Customer Care at Alfa UK.

I would be really grateful if you could give me a bit more info.
For example, the exact dates you had your upgrade, the mileage of the Car at the time.?

Has it made a great differance to the feel of the brakes.?

Cheers Rob Wizzo

Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

speaking to the gusy that did my upgrade they assure me that the bolts were not supplied witht he upgrade kit - they used off the shelf allen bolts and washers.
So it would seem Alfa in thier wisdom decided that replacing wheels was cheaper than replacing bolts..... shame as the speedlines are much niver than their replacement multispokes, im just happy I got teledials in exchange for my speedlines!

having spoken to my local dealer with regards to purchasing the upgrade kit, the caliper part numbers on page 1 of the thread dont work on their system.

could someone who has done the upgrade check the part numbers for the calipers and post them up please.

thanks.

Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

Hi,I live in Turkey and new calipers have never came here. There are just 3 gta's ın Turkey and I looked at them, they have old discs and calipers. If you order old calipers, they send you calipers.
If you order older calipers, they send you calipers like standart ones.they were not brembos.Do you know the part numbers of old 305mm gta calipers?and also does 3.2 GT have the new big calipers or old ones?

I sent the part no's to Picaddily in Knaresborough and they came back with:

F0077362692 BRAKE PADS X1 59.37
F00773626276 CALIPER X1 193.74
F00773626277 CALIPER X1 193.74
F0051733051 BRAKE DISC X2 81.18
F0060693782 PIPE X1 5.17
F0060693783 PIPE X1 5.17
F0060693576 BRACKET X1 8.43
F0060693575 BRACKET X1 8.43

So the part no's obviously worked in their machine?

Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

As an owner of a 2nd hand GTA on 305's (147) and out of warranty I assume that I could not get a free upgrade to the 330 front brake set??

I have owned the car now for 3 months and am now about to replace the brake disks for warping a second time. Feeling very dis-heartened!!

Has anyone upgraded the brakes to some Autodelta 305 performance disks (http://www.autodeltashop.com/product...oducts_id=113), does this stop the problem re-occurring? Any comments would be well received!!

Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

Try changing away from the standard rubbish pads.
Ferodo DS2500's are excellent, or DS Perf if you want a completley silent pad, DS2500's squeak slightly occasionally (but stop superbly).

I haven't used the 305mm AD discs, but their 330mm ones stand up to a lot of abuse (have used 2 sets).

I'm not sure about the OEM 330mm ones, but my AD 330mm cross drilled ones are 32mm so 32mm is certainly possible for the OEM ones.

Cheers,
TB
