Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

Perhaps I've missed it somewhere but can the AR brake upgrade fit in the 17" GTA Teledials or do you need the Spoked type?. The only photo's of ugraded Brakes I have found so far show them behind 18" spoked wheels. Is this why Atty was asked what wheels he had?.

As David has already said they fit with the 17" Teledials. They may be asking because there is a clearance problem with the original 17" spoked alloys. As David told me in a previous thread, in the event of a brake upgrade on a car with the 17" spoked alloys, Alfa will supply the later 17" spoked wheels with enough clearance.

Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

i put an enquiry into alfa romeo about the upgrade and they.ve got back to me saying the upgrade is only available if the car is less than 3000 miles? i think this is bull, put in a complaint and will be following it up next week with the garage inspecting the car and a report to alfa showing that it is not just wear and tear. has anyone had this reaction before from alfa?

Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

I have nothing definate yet, but I am getting the impression they will only upgrade Cars with recurring problems. If your Brakes work fine and the Car has covered a few miles it seems they are not prepared to fund it.
TBH it seems like a reasonable commercial stand point.

Does anyone know what is distance center-center between bolts/nuts that hold those calipers on wheel hub/support. Marked as yellow on picture, in mm preferably.

It sounds like they are trying to pull a fast one. I've done about 25000 miles and am well into the third year of my warranty. Also it was the first time I'd had any problems with my brakes.

If you are only in Aberdeen then maybe a quick trip down to Perth might be in order.

Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

RESULT !, even arnold clark were being extremely akward after i told them id contacted the warranty company who agreed to replace the warped discs like for like, the dealer wouldnt take my word for it and said "we very much doubt that warranty will cover this sort of problem"
after much talk they agreed to put in a claim for me,

the next day i recieve a call saying the warranty have authorised the new discs and to take my car in and 3rd year service carried out. brakes work much better now, if they warp again i'll be pushing for the upgrade.

Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

well I am just going down this route.
When I first enquired as to the problem of juddering etc whilst braking from high speed, the answer I got was "it's the ABS working"
So it's round two, as the problem is getting worse.

Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

I am between Ware and Stevenage, so closer than you think!
I am trying DBS in Hertford as that's where I bought the GTA. However reading other posts and stuff on the net I am hoping what I've read isn't true, in the fact that Alfa have stopped this practice of the upgrade due to the car being now out of production.
If this IS the case I'll try and do a deal of sorts.
They suggested me changing the pads, and having new discs fitted when the problem is obviously an Alfa one! So I may have my work cut out. But I'll keep you informed.

Where did you get yours from?

I got mine from Perry's in aylesbury. I might make a trip to DBS myself with the same symptoms and see what they say... surely 2 owners hassling them is better than 1? What year is your car?

Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

My brakes appear to be behaving themselves at the moment, which is a worry. Mine judder after repeated use but mainly whilst braking from speed (80+) say whilst using the M25. But are OK round town. So how will they test them? I'm bound to get a verdict of 'they're fine we can't find a problem'

Re: ***Definitive 147/156 GTA brake upgrade thread***

There's an owner on the AROC forum who had his brakes upgraded by the dealer back in Sept, due to 2 previous warranty claims. The following was done by AR UK in the 3rd year of warranty:

355mm discs, 6pot callipers, 17" Multispoke alloys (from a 159) which were not a direct replacement for his original items, and the tyre inflator set up for the boot (in lieu of the spare).

However they do look like larger 4 pots in the pics and the 335mm upgrade, but regardless, it shows that in Sept they were doing the work.

I can do a link to the page, but you need to be a member to access the page! But I'll see if I can copy some pics across.

the pics u shown with the multispoke 17" rims & calipers i strongly believe are with the larger 4 pots and 330mm rotors and not 355mms with 6 pots... i do believe u'd need at least 18" rims wit a proper OFFSET to fit them 6pots + the larger 355mms...

cheers!

I think that too, even though they may not be what is stated it was done in Sept of this year, so AR are still honouring some claims!
