Maybe I'm (ever so) slightly biased, but I think the GT is a wonderful looking car. To be honest, I have never driven a car that has had such a response from people, the amount of times people have come up to me and asked about the car, or just given me the thumbs up, is simply incredible.

Still beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I'm sure the Brera will be equally as stunning. However neither will be as beautiful as a Lancia Gamma Coupe, but then in my opinion, nothing ever will !!!

I've gotta disagree with you about the GT stlying though. When I first saw the photos I thought much the same as you...but then I saw one for real and I was 110% won over (obviously). Even the guy at the end of my road with a new Bentley GT has stopped by to ask me about the Alfa.
I'm with you on this one David. And was the GT not voted most beatiful car in the world recently by a group of eminent architects? It is also completely wrong to say the GT is a cut and shut 147/156/Brava. You might as well say the new Ferrari Scaglietti is a cut and shut Puggeot 405!! The GT does have a Alfa family resemblences but these are all classic Bertone cues. No way would the house of Bertone stitch a "Disegno Bertone" label on anything they were not truly proud of.

You're also right about the Brera and petrol engines. I've no complaints about my GT diesel other than the fact that the noise is simply not right. I really wish I could afford the fuel consumption of the v6 - I wouldn't have hesitated. The Brera is truly gorgeous and if I can afford one then it will have to be petrol powered and if it comes with the Maser v8 as rumoured then I'll be untieing every knotted hanky I own to pay for it. Stuff the pension plan and stuff the endowment shortfall - they can all chase me into the sunset.

Re: Sub Zero Cool Wall and the missing Alfa GT

eh? the GT IS a cut down 156/147 - they have the same floorpan....
the GT also has virtually the same front as the 147....

and as for the rear:

Cheers for the photie, I'd forgotten for a minute just how delicious the GT was.
Now come on; having the same floor pan as the 156 hardly justifies the sartorial criticism. Heck, dozens of cars have the same floor pan but look and behave nothing like each other. Witness almost the entire VW/SEAT/Skoda range, the old 164/Saab 9000/Fiat Croma/Lancia Thema cooperation, all of them with completely different looks and driving characteristics. try and view the GT as a car in it's own right and if you get the oppurchancity (hardly likely as they are so rare) to see one parked next to a BMW 3 series Coupe and Audi TT you won't fail to agree that the GT has a beauty all of it's own
According to your observations the Brera front end has been nicked from the face lifted 156 - and you may be right, but it don't make the Brera or 156 bad lookin' motors.
I enclose with this posting a Specsavers voucher - if you're from the UK you'll know where to take it

Can't argue with that -the 147 GTA is a rocket sled with well documented performance credentials. The GT is, well, a GT (Grand Turismo) and designed for a different purpose, although you might wish to compare Autodelta's offerings in that rerspect. This discussion however is on the relative merits of the GT's looks and design and that basically is what this car is about (with not incosiderable performance chucked in). The overwhelming consensus is that under those criteria it succeeds very well indeed. Over to you....

Re: Sub Zero Cool Wall and the missing Alfa GT

This is getting really scary, for the 3rd time this year, I find myself in complete agreement with UKOLDSCHOOL . . . .

I looked at a 3.2 black GT, alongside my Red GTA . . drove them alongside each other, and I drive a GTA, nuff said . . . .

Re: Sub Zero Cool Wall and the missing Alfa GT

i love both the 147 GTA and the GT

but how anone can say the GTA is more beautiful than the GT stuns me

The GTA has its own look, a phat little hard core racer

The GT, on the other hand is a stuner, and as mentioned previously, voted the most beautiful coupe in the world in 2004(?)

sorry the GTA will never win a beauty contest

Its is a different experience to drive than the GT for sure (drove crashwongs)

the brera, its a whacko looking car, looks like a frog. I still want one tho

as far as turng heads is concerned, it happens to me evryday of the week regardless of what car im driving

I actually considered a 147 GTA, checked a stack of them out. Had a look at one metalic black GT v6.

Im driving a metalic black v6 GT....nuff said....

Pimpin aint easy!

GT is better looking that brera - sorry - the original show car was super cool but i think alfa might have mucked around with the styling some?

I agree. The concept car looked wider, lower, longer and had some lovely touches like the wing mirrors...and that interior was just stunning.

I still like the production Brera though

Re: Sub Zero Cool Wall and the missing Alfa GT

TBH I think the GT owners, (who rightfully thought they bought the most beautiful Alfa in the line) is threatend beyond reason by the Brera.

Clearly and without any doubt, the Brera is endlessly more beautiful then the GT. I too like to stick up for my own choices, but if i owned a GT, i'd have enough sense to keep a low profile in this GT Vs Brera best looking debate..

That being said the GT is a great looking car too. But sorry fella's.. it's only a distant 2nd in looks department of the current range.

Mwaaa cheeky sod

Few faults in your analogy though.

a) I'm not German
b) I've been to Benidom and experienced the British sense of style

Sorry Peter - saw the German location and feared the worst

For the record I do like the Brera but it's a bit 'hunched' up in a bad sort of way like the awful Crossfire. I think a longer lower design would have made it the best looking Alfa to date.

Sorry Peter but I couldn't disagree more, the Brera concept was a good looking car but it's production variant has lost almost all of it's agressive character. I think in a beauty contest between GT and Brera the GT wins hands down, it's just a much cleaner design. Brera's fat ass is too fussy in my opinion.
