Motor Control Failure

Hi all

I had a Motor Control Failure warning light on my dash this morning and tried the old trick of turning the engine off and on but the light stayed on. I am taking it to the dealer today but given that they are not that au fait with all things Alfa (as they are pretty new to the marque) and wondered if anybody had any ideas as what it means. The Alfa handbook was not entirely helpful save for telling me to get it looked at ASAP....

The exhaust noise has also changed and rather than a pleasing burble it makes a phut phut noise

Up until now the old girl has been pretty reliable lets hope it is not a sign of things to come!

Cheers

Dave

A pushbike

Could be numerous things, but a phut phut noise would suggest its down to running on 5, or less (rather than all 6 spark plugs firing, only 5 are) which means that a coil pack could have died. Has it got wet recently?

Not anymore than normal to be honest.

I managed to get it to the dealer and it appears that there is a crack in one of the engine manifolds (i am not that mechanically minded so i could be wrong here). Either way there was a hissing noise coming from the engine so it is going in next week to get it sorted out .

The car has done over 80k so i guess its wear and tear. I am just delighted that i did not break down as getting pushed off the road in an Alfa normally garners hilarious comments from passers by
Thanks

Dave

A cracked manifold will give you a tss tss tss noise when started cold.... Did they read the fault code? They should of told you what it said...

That's the noise - he mentioned that there was issues with the air mix but we only worked out it was a cracked manifold with the help of a watering can on the engine.

Unless it's really serious and big it shouldn't make that much of an impact on the air mix.. I had a cracked manifold on my 156 GTA.

If the air mix is off it could just be a lambda sensor.
