Auto Wiper Function

My GTA's Auto Wiper function was pathetic I rarely worked & often far too late, so much so I had to flick up the stalk to operate the 'once-only' function.

So after a short spin in it this afternoon where i discovered that if it gently pushed the Auto sensor towards the windscreen it worked alot better.

Upon arriving back home I tilted the mirror so as I could see the Auto wiper unit, I was surprised to see a 'trap door' at the back of it open & the sensor had slipped downwards within in its casing so as the sensor was almost blocked. There also was a 'jelly' like substance covering the sensor.

I removed this 'jelly' centred the sensor within the casing & closed the 'trap door' Now the Auto function works grand. One less thing to annoy me.

I hear lots of complaints about auto wipers, but mine have been nothing short of perfect. My only issue that is if you start the car with the auto function engaged it doesn't work until you move the stalk off and then back on.

This is a useful 'safety' feature. If the wipers are on 'auto', and they are frozen to the screen in the winter, then they will of course try to work when ice on the sensor begins to melt...........before you know it, one burnt out wiper motor

Went fixing this issue I found that the head-light washers were not working. Of course I took the long way aorund to fix the problem which turned out to be just a blown 20Amp fuse in the glove box.

I had loosened & moved the coolant resevoir & swapped over the 2 connectors to see if the head-light washer pump was ceased or blocked & it was not.

Running out of things to fix on this car now

Mine were also annoying the hell out of me. Then when the car was being repaired after the bonnet incident they took the screen out, and when it was replaced told me they had been unable to get the gel pack you mention, just in case I found they didn't work. However like you I now find they actually work acceptably!
