The car has been fantastic you WILL love it..great choice in RED thats the colour i wanted but the choice when the car was first released was somewhat limited and i ended up with a silver one, still very nice tho.

The 18", i assume they are the same as the GT's?? they look good.

ENJOY... you have made a wise choice and believe me they are still rare on the road and you will get admiring looks from those 'sheep like' VW/BMW/Audi owners.

Thanks for the welcome - it's nice to hear from so many GTA owners. There are not so many out there (I've never seen another on the road yet) but I think those that DO own one have one thing in common...they LOVE their car!! Not heard a bad word yet.

I ended up with a red one but to be honest I would have taken any colour. The choice was very very limited at the time and it was only shear luck that the dealer managed to locate one in Italy and it happened to be red.

A couple of weeks back I got an admiring glance from a Porsche Carrera 4 owner (his car was I guess about 5 years old - black - very nice). I spotted him in my rear view mirror picking his way through a line of traffic one by one - he looked like he was 'in the mood'. By the time he reached me we were coming up to a roundabout. The exit of the roundabout went into a dual carriageway. He tucked in behind me as we trundled around. As we came to the exit (I knew what was coming... ) He 'gunned' it. I thought 'what the hell' ....I'd made sure I was in 2nd gear coming off the bend..then hammered it. The Porsche slowly (and I mean SLOWLY) eased ahead. Through the gears into 4th - still going for it - he was 3/4 of a car length ahead, then we both had to back off as another roundabout was looming. He carried on, I turned left.

Afterwards, I thought it was pretty close considering what he was driving. Maybe he thought he could 'dot' me without trying and wasn't in the right gear - he certainly got his eyes opened ......and made me feel a whole lot better about the Alfa.

the GT coupe 3.2 V6 in my country comes standard wit Toora spoked rims & Michelin Pilot sport 2s... probably it shld be the same ones on LakeM 147GTA's cos they didnt have this specific spoked rims in 18" as an option on all GTAs... that is until the GT coupe 3.2 V6 was launched it seems.

TO: LakeM, may i ask did ur 18" come as standard or did u hav to request the dealer for it to be "thrown in"?

a exhaust mod here & there, ecu remap, a lightened bonnet, dump in some coilovers and ure more than likely to feel only "a lot better" abt the Alfa giving porsche owners and the like a run for their money...

Thanks LakeM - very nice shots! I wasn't the greatest fan of the 147, but I wouldn't say no to that on my driveway

I'm glad to see that you are having some FUN with the GTA, i've had many a run in with Porsche Boxers (amongst many others) and given some more powerful cars a bit of a FRIGHT
Its real fun playing the game with these cars although i will confess to losing my bottle before one driver of a Boxer going down a country lane and around a flat fast bend at 90mph, the porsche did seem a little bit more 'sorted' for that sort of driving than my GTA and i backed off rather than put my P&J in the ditch...

Keep us up to date with how you get on and any problems you encounter, i have found these forums hugely useful.

Tron: The 18" wheels are a £600 upgrade in the UK. The dealer talked me into it really but I'm glad he did now

It's certainly worth considering - maybe when the car is out of warranty. How do you find the torque steer with even more bhp trying to get down onto the road? I wouldn't say it's such a big deal at the moment but it is noticable.

Re: Great Forum !!

Beautiful GTA - love the 18" wheels (and the color!).

Someone else already said it, but I've already found out the hard way how easy it is to scrape the front spoiler...

Interesting you test drove an Sti but decided on a GTA - I went from an M3 to an Sti to the GTA, and of the three, I am far and away most pleased with the GTA.

I've had it about two months, but like the guy Bomerlow was talking to in the parking lot, I STILL can't get that ear to ear grin off my face

Interstingly, I got far less looks in my Dakar Yellow M3 which cost twice as much, than I do in my GTA - the lines are near perfection, I truly love how the flared curvy fenders change the whole demeanor of the car. And that glorious sound!...

Am still trying to take it easy on the engine, but like you, whenever there is a playful challend from another nice car, I can't seem to resist. The first time was against a black Gti (new) who had it all modded out with muffler and lowered suspension. He gunned his engine a few times at the light, and though at first I thought I wasn't gonna race him because I had only done about 100km on the engine, my GTA, like a thoroughbred race horse seemed to be saying to me "come on, let me, PLEAASE, I'm ready, let's take him...". So, with my resolve now broken, I took off - I did try to have at least a bit of reserve (shifting first and second between 5000 and 5500rpm), but even without completely gunning her, I was just completely astonished at the brute force and ease with which she was able to both accelerate off the line, and just effortlessly weave between cars. I EASILY put 1-2 car lengths between us, and then eased off after that since we were already doing about 130kmp on a 50kph road. A light soon came up and I waited till the last possible moment and hit the brakes really hard - again I was astonished by how solid and linear the brake response was (reminded me directly of my M3's superb brakes). Needless to say when we finally stopped my heart was pumping and my smile was un-hideable (though I was scolding myself for reving the engine during the breakin period). I was happy to see the Gti driver looking at my car with new respect (borderline astonishment) and he gave me a big smile and a thumbs up sign!
