GTA Oil

Is it ok to mix Castrol 10W60 and Selenia 10W60 or should you stick to just one brand?

Cheers in advance

Re: GTA Oil

There should be no real problems as same grade and both synthetic
It is preferable to use the same oil rather than changing mixing brands.

Why are you in the position of mixing oils?

I make sure I am not in that situation by suppling Castrol 10W60RS to my dealer at oil change. Reason is that for me Castrol 10W60 is easier to get than Selenia 10W60

Thumbs Up Re: GTA Oil

It's OK to mix and match.
I asked at the Millers open night.

The bloke basically said we'd be FUBAR'd if we couldn't as we have no idea what the factory or the dealer has put in anyway.

Re: GTA Oil

Thanks fot the replies guys - I knew I could count on you Rick!

Basically I have about 2.5 litres of Selenia left and could only find a 4 litre bottle of castrol, which the dealer says isnt enough for an oil change, so I was hoping that i wouldnt have to go out and buy another 4 litre bottle of castrol!

I have hopefully sold the GTA anyway but I just didnt want to screw the car for the next owner if I could possibly help it!

I am now on the look out for a nice sportswagon JTD, fancy a change rick?!!

err... i think its very much advisable if you first confirm whether the Selenia 10w-60 is 100% FULLY SYNTHETIC or SEMI-SYN... cos i believe the CASTROL 10w-60 is FULLY SYNTHETIC???

One of the reasons im using AGIP 10W-60 is bcos it is 100% FULLY SYNTHETIC while the selenia 10w-60 isnt... so its best you confirm this point before mixing them up.

i do believ there are issues/problems regarding long term usage of mineral oils and a full switch to 100% synthetics... read somewher that doing so will likely cause the engine to conk out on u...

so my advice is pls check...

regards,

Re: GTA Oil

As i understand it "normal" selenia 10w40 is partially synthetic - but selenia 10w60 is fully synthetic.

I hope this is true cause it is too late now!!

Re: GTA Oil

Nah. You don't need one of those when you have an Alfa.

It's just when you try and sell one that it's a worry. Why do you think all these 155'ers have got loads of the bloody things.
