156 GTA cambelt change

Having read some horror stories re. cambelt failures, I'd appreciate your opinions on whether to change mine now at 55,000 miles, or wait until the annual service comes up around next Xmas, which would be as recommended by AR's servicing regime. By this time mileage will be about 60,000.

The cambelt and tensioners were renewed under warranty at 8000 miles, but that was over four years ago. Car does quite a bit of motorway work and am getting a bit paranoid about it going bang! What do you think please?

Re: 156 GTA cambelt change

So the current set have done 47,000 and 4 years?
I'd change them. If you don't, you're just going to be feeling very uncomfortable about it for the next 7 months.
I'd say it's worth spending the money early for peace of mind.

My feeling is basically that, for peace of mind if nothing else, GTA cambelts should be done every 4 years or 48,000 miles.

You are already 17500 miles and a year over the proper limit, so if you don't heed the warning of all the other GTA drivers, and all the posts that are on here, then ............. [Remember 60,000km or 3 years].........

Please change your cambelts, tensioner, two idlers, remove the silly plastic impeller water pump and organise a decent one from EB Spares... and Q2 while you're at it.. and you should be sorted..

Why wait for it to snap man, cos it will... due the decent thing... take it to your local independent/dealer.. whichever.. and get it sorted... then you can drive in peace... no worries...

Re: 156 GTA cambelt change

One of ours was done at 72000, by a previous owner. The other car I am going to wait until 50,000. Fingers crossed. I know that could be a false economy but where do you stop. I will be every month before too long......

Re: 156 GTA cambelt change

Thanks for your comments guys. Feel decidedly nervous about leaving it now so have booked it in to be done in a few days.
