suspension advice

Hi everyone I need your advice and collective wisdom

I have a 04 147GTA Sele, since new .. i have just done 35000 km, and will probably change my suspension soon.

My desire, to lower it 30mm all round, and have a much more comfortable ride (Sydney, Australian roads are terrible) and also make it a lot more surefooted and less twitchy at higher speeds, I do not intend doing more than 1 or 2 trackdays a year. It would also be good if I could adjust the height if needed.

I initiially thought coilovers either KW V2's or the Eibach Pro-Street Series, but a few specialists have warned me that ANY coilover would result in a much harsher and uncomfortable ride.

So should I consider separate springs and damper combo's and if so, which ones, or are coilovers still the best option ?

People are just no damn good

Re: suspension advice

GB, I'm in the same boat with you. Wanted to get a set of Coilover but worry that it will be much harsher than stock. I had a ride on GT 3.2 with KW V2 as well as a 156GTA with Ebach Pro Street Coilover (GTAOwner's car). Both were quite comfort but i think it is different kind of comfort. It was more of firm comfort that it is not much suspension travel however it wasn't rough at all. If I remember correctly the Eibach was a little fimer.

Re: suspension advice

I don't know which is the best combo, but Koni FSDs and Eibachs have worked well for me on the 156 GTA. They have lowered the car slightly. Don't know if it's 30mm or not, but the wheels fill the arches better. Ride is great. Several other folks have fitted the Harvey-Bailey shocks and Eibach spring combination supplied by Monza Sport in the UK and say this is very good.

Cheers,

Nigel

Ned gave me a demo of his 156 test mule, and I was very impressed. I hadn't considered suspension changes before but have decided to keep the GTA another 3 years or so, and am considering this. I think that along with the Q2 I just had would make the GTA the car it should have been, would you agree Nigel now you have both yourself?

Absolutely. I'm no expert driver I'm afraid but the set up I have now is definitely significantly better than the standard set up. It feels fantastic to me. I'll be keeping her until the next generation of GTAs are about 2 years old (I'm hoping in about 5 years time...).

Cheers,

Nigel

Re: suspension advice

How about the GTA tuned Koni FSDs available at EB Spares? Anyone have info on these and how they differ from the standard ones? They are GBP 10.00 extra over the standard ones.

Re: suspension advice

I've decided to give the Koni FSDs and Eibach Springs a try. I've recently changed the upper and lower wishbones as well as drop-link, is there anything else that would be a good idea to change while fitting the springs and dampers? Bump stops, top mount plates or whatever... Car has 85K km. Thanks.

Koni FSD and Eibach springs, to get the best from it I would advise putting 4 new front wish bones and changing the rear arms. You have done Q2 haven’t you? If not get everything done at the same time as it will reduce the labour costs and transform the car
