Xenon lights

Hi all just want to make all of you aware of this..whatever car you buy dont option it with xenon headlights..if you get prob;emsthey are so expensive..so far I had problems with the ballast in my right one $750..and had to change a globe $350..now my left one the ECU went kaput...wait for it $1500..thats just the cost of parts without the labour..I think dealers shoud tell peaple that order Xenons wht the costs are when they break..so whatever car I have in the future will have conventional headlights..they might not light up the road like xenons but they are so much more cheaper to fix and best of all you can do it yourself..so guys dont do it to yourselves..get convetional lights and save yoursel a lot of financial heartache.

Re: Xenon lights

They are expensive when they break, yes - but so are GTA's

Surely its like saying "Don't buy a GTA, there's a possibility the cambelt could snap, leaving you with a big bill. Buy a 1.6TS instead, cheaper to fix"

Sounds like you have just been unfortunate - but I'm on my second car with xenon's, and despite the risk of a big bill, I'd still spec them. No substitute on the dark country lanes...

Re: Xenon lights

love my xenons, and would do it again. in fact, i don't think i'd buy another car without them if possible.

over here (australia) we don't have the 'salt road' issues, that may be contributing to some corrosion and faults that UK owners report.

it's not new technology, so should prove reliable in the long run.

this is of course my opinion, but hopefully to provide a balanced discussion.

Re: Xenon lights

My car has xenons and I'm impressed with the brightness, much better than the old JTD. The chap that posted was from Australia!

Re: Xenon lights

Actually the biggest problem with xenons is going to be availability of the raw material. There isn't enough of it on the planet to meet projected demand so it's going to get a lot more expensive.

I had one headlamp unit go pop on mine after the seal failed and water got in. It would have been 600 quid if it wasn't under warranty. OUCH!!
