Re: Check your top engine mount

The mount on my 2.5 also failed, so I guess a heads up for any 5 or 6 potter.

Errrr. It was a bit dark...
I'll have to have another look, maybe I was getting it wrong. This mount is attached to the body close to the drivers side suspension turret, right?

Re: Check your top engine mount

Still get traction torque relayed from the wheels though, regardless of the crank, block, cylinders, configuration, on a transverse don't you?

Re: Check your top engine mount

Confusion explained:
Three bolts through the bracket - two attaching it to the turret, one connecting to the rest of the mount.

The difference is that yours was like that when you bought it, yes?
I would never, ever let mine get to such a state, nor any other part of my car, this just re-inforces the addage that you get what you pay for, luckily for yourself the rest of the car you bought was pretty good.
This is isn't a dig at yourself or your car but just to point out that when people see a 'cheap' gta on ebay or similar and then go and say that that is all they are worth they are missing the point of more expensive but well looked after cars. (and I know you are taking very good care of your car )
Cheers, Chris.

Hurrah to my friends and hearty rasberries to mine enemies!

Re: Check your top engine mount

Wonder how they get that way? Just checked mine and after 64K miles and (nearly) 5 years it's still spot on, as far as I can tell.

It will pretty much depend on how your car is driven, if it's driven hard every now and then, then the torque of the engine which is transfered to this stabaliser (torque reaction bar) will eventually cause the rubber to split.
If the car is mainly motorway miles or driven very gently it will last longer.

Admittedly quite a few of those miles were motorway, but also a lot of Derbyshire country roads driven ... erm ... enthusiastically

What I haven't done a lot of is town driving, drag starts at the lights, lots' of on and off the clutch??? Once moving I've generally had a clear run to the office over the years - which has been excellent in this car Might explain it.

Re: Check your top engine mount

Apparently there is a (oem alfa special) modified part available to replace this that is stiffer, te rubber bush remains the same but the stabiliser is stronger so doesn't allow as much movement.

Re: Check your top engine mount

Hi guys

I recently got my car back after the engine being rebuilt following the cam belt failing.

The idle doesn't feel smooth, although the rev counter is sitting at 750rpm as before.

Also, it sounds like the timing may be off from the exhaust.

Looking at the pics here, I think my top engine mount may be worn out. Would that have an effect on the sound from the exhaust?

I hope it's just the mount and nothing else.

Many thanks

Not to the extent that you describe I would say. Get the car checked out, maybe the timing is out.
