Re: Hot...Hot...Heat !!!
I've been watching mine quite closely over the past weeks of this thread. Here's what I've seen:
- for short trips with no traffic halts it takes a while to get to the 75 level, sometimes doesn't even get there.
- for longer trips, it stays around 75
- as soon as it gets stuck in traffic, temp goes up quite quickly to just over 90 deg, fans kick in and it drops back to just below 90. Depending on traffic conditions it either stays around 90 or drops back towards 75 once it gets on the open road.
I suspect that's probably as intended, based on the other comments here.
Cheers,
Nigel

Is this right??? I'm not really used to having a car that gets that hot in such a short time. Sometimes from cold the car can be up to these temps in around 10 minutes of normal driving.....is this okay my fellow Alfa Friends ???
PS: I'm still having squeaky probs with my bloody brakes Mr Ned !!!
Seems normal cos mine does the same with the A/C off.. with the A/C on she is just shy of 90.. and i have a new waterpump with metal impeller and a new thermostat.. maybe my rad is clogged,... dunno, but my mechanic says it's normal...

Re: Hot...Hot...Heat !!!
Wooohhhooo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Finally my brakes are SQQQQUUEEAAK free !!...Turned out to be the PF Pads, which are bloody good but "FECKING" noisy on the standard 305mm front discs....Sooooo standard pads were tried...and guess what !!???
Cheers for being patient Mr Ned (Still doesn't believe me that they squeaked at all)
Now the brakes are sorted my fecking Power steering is playing up the steering wheel sometimes feels crap and I get a groan from what can only realistically be the PAS Pump !!!! also my Aircon is as cool as a George Foreman Grill, looking at the cars history the Aircon was serviced and re-gassed last year !!!
Nevermind though soon be Christmas !!!

Re: Hot...Hot...Heat !!!
The thermostat should open at either 85 or 88 degrees (can't remember which), so if your car is cooling to less than this while on the move, the thermostat is either stuck open or your gauge is mis-reading..

Re: Hot...Hot...Heat !!!
My 03 jts does absolutly the same thing:event in cold winter days if I'm stuck in bad traffic the temp goes up to nearly 90 or even a bit past and the the fan kicks in and brings it down.So I imagine this is the way it should be.
Although I'm considering a closer look on the thermostat and iff needed to change it.

Who is fitting your Q2? Its likely you need a radiator rather than a thermostat if its over heating? How old is your car? Radiators are usually knackered at 5 years of age.

Seconded. I wouldn't dream of taking my car to a franchised dealers. First off, most of what you pay just go's towards all the nice shiny glass and people in suits, secondly they pay their mechanics peanuts, so all the good ones eventually leave and go work at an independent.

Sounds like your thermostat is working fine. However, I'd take a look at your radiator, and see if it is still in good condition. Also, check you have enough coolant if you think it is getting hot too quickly.

Back on the road: Alfa 156 3.0 24v V6, Silver with red leather, Q2 diff, 17" GTA Teledials, headlights & inlet manifold, AutoDelta carbon intake,
SuperSprint exhaust, Dastek Unichip & FK coilovers - my 245bhp beast!
Gone but not forgotten: Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Veloce, Vela Blu, Angel 'mad map' & BMC CDA, Ferodo DS2500s - the fastest tractor in town!

unfortunately, it is a dealer...i know they'd charge more on this, but it saves me some time on internet finding a ind garage and runnin around etc...actually, i did go down to an ind garage, but i didnt think they were sure about the heating problem neither, 'coz they were talking about my thermostat. so i thought i'd better find the answer by myself then.
i guess its because its not their car, they dont have any passion on it. they just do their job and get paid. but for us, as the owners and enthusiasts of our GTA, we'd like them to be perfect and see them as our loved ones

You should really add your location to your profile, there are a few Oz/NZ fellas on here who might be able to help you out.
