Your poor fuel economy is because it is not running at the right temperature.. Get is changed, its only a 45 min job and the part isnt expensive..

Good advice - I think I may have the same issue. Will get it checked out.

Cheers,

I do too, but it isn't too serious at the moment. I don't really use the car during the week so I'm rushing to do it.

Re: Hot...Hot...Heat !!!

Well.....

The GTA is at Autolusso having it's "BLOODY" squeaky brakes beaten to death with a hammer !!!

While I'm moaning about my car.....Has anyone had any suspension re-builds recently ??

The guy I bought the car from appears to have had wishbones replaced, axle bushes done and before that (2 years or so) the car had new rear suspension mounts etc.....My point is.....When at speed on my private simulated A-Road the car feels very unstable, almost as if the rear is going to overtake the front !!!....Now I am talking at "Speed" 110 - 120 plus.

Does this sound familiar ??? has anyone had similar experiences ???

I had the car alignment done only two days after I bought it.....but on closer examination whilst on a ramp at Autolusso the suspension doesn't appear to have been touched since the new bits were fitted....i.e Nuts and Bolts untouched !!! bloody tyre specialist !! never again !!!

Does anyone know of a "GOOD" suspension specialist (in the South West) that could set the car up.....and not charge me a fortune !!

What he said. They did mine and it's great - provided you put Koni FSDs and Eibach springs on.....

Cheers,

Re: Hot...Hot...Heat !!!

Regarding temperature:
There is a very alrge thread on here with peoples temps etc.
The thread prompted me to a thermostat change about 2 year ago, the temps I was seeing were around 75 deg normal running, 90deg in traffic, fans always kick in at this, they will also kick in earlier if you are running aircon or the auto (aircon) light is on.
Results were that the car ran exactly the same temperatures with the new thermostat fitted, the old one was tested and found to be fine (left new one in anyway).
It seems that GTA's run lower temperatures than other V6's so don't be too scared. An easy way to check is thanks to the wonderfull software Alfa run as if you watch the gauge from cold it will rise to around 75/80 then you see the temp drop again as the thermostat opens and steadily rise.
If however you don't see at least 70 then it is probably stuffed and should be changed asap.
If you are regularily at 90+ in traffic it is likely to be the plastic impellered pump.
The thing I learnt from this was not scare yourself silly over everything you read on internet forums

Hurrah to my friends and hearty rasberries to mine enemies!

Re: Hot...Hot...Heat !!!

That's pretty much on the money. If the temp gets to 75° quickly from a cold start then your thermostat is working perfectly. If it struggles away to 50 or 60° then there's a problem. The gauge itself isn't necessarily a very accurate instrument, so don't take too much notice of the actual numbers. More the pattern of behaviour.

And if you're worried that your car's running too hot bear in mind that the coolant won't boil until about 120°, so you're unlikely to do any harm below that. The warning light should come on at about 110-115° - that's when you need to stop and investigate.

Re: Hot...Hot...Heat !!!

Hmmm
I've worked out what my car is doing now... at speeds of 80-120Km/h the temp is at 50 but after idleing for 5 minutes, the temp goes back to normal ie 75-90. up to 60-80Km/h the temp is fine but go over 80 and upward for a while and the temp will drop to 50 and less. WTF?

You need a new thermostat, yours is stuck open. The faster you go the cooler it gets..

Before you do anything, get the pads out, get a file and file a 45degree chamfer on the trailing and leadin edge of the pad. This mod historically stops the squeek.

No disrespect to any of the people that tried to sort your car out but i'm an automotive engineer i know a thing or two.
Ferodo ds2500, people complain about them. I fitted them a few weeks ago and they are superquiet with the trick i mentioned earlier. Try it you have nothing to lose.
