There is still hope to keep the prices up.

2002 ALFA ROMEO 156 V6 24V GTA SILVER on eBay, also, Alfa Romeo, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 23-Apr-08 11:30:00 BST)

Good to see there is a car older than mine without the 330 upgrade going for £7000 (I realise the reserve hasn't been met)

Let's hope this means that 156GTA prices will stay in the +7K figures.

Re: There is still hope to keep the prices up.

There was one on eBay the other day Joe, a black GTA, and it was up for little over £6000

I think the guy just wanted a lightening quick sale though.

Aye that was the cosmos one..

I reckon he'll have just got his mate to bid on that. I don't know what he's doing having a reserve higher than £7k. Its as old as a GTA can get, no brake upgrade (looks that way - but I have emailed him for confirmation).. Maybe he just isn't all that fussed about selling it. It would be nice to think prices will hold steady for GTAs but I can't see it happening, they'll probably all go down to about what Joe paid and sit there for a while, in my opinion.

Back on the road: Alfa 156 3.0 24v V6, Silver with red leather, Q2 diff, 17" GTA Teledials, headlights & inlet manifold, AutoDelta carbon intake,
SuperSprint exhaust, Dastek Unichip & FK coilovers - my 245bhp beast!

Gone but not forgotten: Alfa 156 2.4 JTD Veloce, Vela Blu, Angel 'mad map' & BMC CDA, Ferodo DS2500s - the fastest tractor in town!

Re: There is still hope to keep the prices up.

I love GTA 156's, but for similar performance you can get a late 90's BMW 540i Manual. 0-60 in 5.8, top speed of 155MPH.

Sure the handling won't be as good, but that can be sorted out.

Plus the BMW's are going for at least half the price of the GTA's.

Then again, it is an Alfa...

GTAs are half the price of M3s..

You'll always find something almost as good for half the price.

Re: There is still hope to keep the prices up.

Yeah you are right Dan, but that does have it's limits, you can't get a car for half the price a Ford Probe V6 (£1000 max) that clocks a 7.5 0-60 and 145MPH top speed can you?

But then again, I think you'd rather walk,

Re: There is still hope to keep the prices up.

They might have done a 7.5 and 145mph top speed when they came out of the factory but I bet there ain't many that'll do it now! You are a right Ford lover aren't you?

Anyway, you can still get summat good for half that - a Rover 620 Ti for about £500, thats a 2.0 turbo with 220bhp that'll do 145mph

Try and beat that for £250!

Re: There is still hope to keep the prices up.

The blue 156 GTA SW on ebay finished at £7.7k

8 seems about average now for private 156 GTA sales... with some cars dropping towards 6 for quick sales and on ebay and the better and newer hitting 9 or more

Easy! How about a 5.3 V12 with 333bhp that'll do 160mph?

But what about the looks - they can't. It's an old man's car. No wonder they're cheap.

Hardly a keeper

Nah, you're right, can I borrow the other £6000 for a GTA then?

A smoking RWD beast of a saloon? Might look a bit old-man ish as standard but get some big wheels on it, darkened windows, lower it and some fancy pipework to make that V8 growl and it'll be anything but an old man's car. Maybe not a 'keeper' but something that is definitely well worth owning for a year or so for under £3k.

Depreciation proof and cheap tax as well, even if it might be a bit heavy on the juice.

True. From old man's car to drug dealer's car in less than 30 minutes

Cheers,

Nigel

Of course you can, but I know you're keeping that V6 so you won't be needing it

Re: There is still hope to keep the prices up.

I have been keeping a close eye on the 156 GTA prices as I will hopefully soon be in the market for one (buyer for my Japense box turned out to be a timewaster so have to readvertise ).

Over the last couple of months the prices have dropped like a stone, especially for the 2002 models. The one linked at the top that didn't meet the reserve of £7.3, had been on Autotrader at £9k just a month or so back (just a shame I haven't sold mine yet)

I doubt the new VED will be that widely known, but when it kicks in and with fuel hitting £5 a gallon (in old money) then I would guess we will see good cars hitting the sub £6k mark sooner rather than later.

...but not the road tax, think that may be affecting prices, it certainly put me off.

I can already think of one cherished example, with tasteful modifications, good service history, 330 upgrade, selling for closer to £5.5k than £6k...
