It was funny when I first bought mine. Found the forum by chance and found a bunch of users talking about the car and how somebody bought it, beating one of the users to it !

Re: Cheap 156 GTA on Ebay

GTA values are a bit rocky at the moment as would be any car in the same class given the economic climate. High interest rates, credit problems not to mention the fuel and VED announcements.

Values will come back once (if) things calm down, as people start not to purchase this type of car, and the supply becomes limited.

If you do a nationwide search on Autotrader for GTA's, there are more on offer than I've ever seen. However I do think it's a bit of knee jerk reaction, hence why values are low.

Also - these £6k higher miles, older GTA cars are most likely not as cheap as they appear to be. If this car was 100% perfect at the age and miles, it would go for at least £1k to £1.5k more - and whilst most people do like the colour of the car, it's not the colour most liked by all (it's that reason I will always have a red Alfa - not only because I like Alfa red, but so do most people)

The cost of putting a couple of tyres on, pads, service, suspension parts and then any other little bits, very quickly runs up a bill of £1k

Re: Cheap 156 GTA on Ebay

Having just bought one.. I agree - When I started looking a couple of months ago there werent many under 10, and then a lot more started to come up....

The first car I saw was a good saloon at 8 that I missed out on. I considered the ebay cosmos up at 9 then 8 but never got to see it(before it was traded on). The blue sw (on ebay) appeared but seemed to have lots done inc clutch which indicated to me an early hard life and put me off when it was advertised at 8,7k - It has to be a bargain at 6 or even 7.5

Those are two cars clearly 'priced to sell' and thats the way of the market if you really want to sell anything at the moment thats what you have to do.

I took a bit of a hit selling my Integrale but then I didnt want to spend 6 months selling it.

I didnt get a bargain on my GTA but it has clearly been looked after and had mods I wanted done. In my experience of shelling out year after year servicing my Integrale I wanted the best car I could find.

I could have have saved £ biding my time or waiting for such a bargain, like operation alfa did - All I can say is very well done mate!

There will be plenty more for sale over the next 2 years as people bail out due enviro-guilt-credit-recession-D&G and it will hit values until '09 but the good cars I hope with retain future classic cachet beyond then so long as they are cared for

I wonder what will happen when the 159GTA appears, will it revive interest in the 156 as they will be over 30k new?

Matt

Thank you very much. It was very much a spur of the moment decision. I never thought I would own one for at least another 2 years. I also realise how lucky I was. The guy had another 5 people that wanted to come and buy it. I just happened to get there first.
