She's gone

I'm sorry to say that the thought of £400+ road tax was it for me, she was also getting about ready for a belt change so I've jumped ship and ordered a Golf bluemotion....... (£40 a year road tax ) Its been a bumpy 2 and a half years, I've gone through two gearboxes but she was the best car I've ever owned. Thanks for the help and info. lol maybe one day I'll be back.

Good choice on the economy front mate.: She quite likes the idea of getting one, but it's this pension stretching that denies us that sort of expenditure. New teeth, hearing aids, glasses, knee and hip joints, Etcetera, Etcetera! It's a hard ole' life.:

What happens with the emission tax if, for example, the car is registered as a Bluemotion but has the R32 unit transplanted in

Re: She's gone

They'll have the sniffer dog's up your bottom, to check it's only pumping out 99g/km, and giving you that claimed 74.3 mpg. So don't get caught doing 120mph in it, or you will be up for the high jump!

You can drive safe in the knowledge that you'll be saving a couple of hundred quid in road tax every year, but it'll take a good fifteen years or so to recoup the cost of the engine conversion...

I'll have to be paying over £1000/year before they get me anywhere near slow, turbo-lagged dirty diesel power

Now that you put it that way, actually, why did you drop the GTA and for a golf, at least could have got a 147.. or a sportwagon if you're a family man...???

Anyway good luck with the German....

I fully agree Matt...

Netcom80 has been unfortunate with his gearbox problems, but at least he had Alfa Warranty behind him. However his choice of replacement from VW will not provide anything like the the level of entertainment, driver satisfaction & interior trim quality etc which comes as standard issue with the 147GTA, and I think he will miss his Alfa

Martin.

Bluemotion is a big step down in performance,
but I applaud your choice of real eco-engineering
instead of the hybrid BS hype.

Re: She's gone

Sorry guys been away for afew days.

Yes the golf isn't my first choice, I know its a big step down in every way. I just wanted the next few years of motoring to be as cheap as possible. It was a 04 plate with 31k, in a roundabout way I got £10k for it. I was happy with this as I'm too honest to be able to sell a car privately lol
