Help: GTA key not turning off/on alarm

Hi Gents,

Bit of help required.

have had my 2002 156 GTA for about 3 months and there has always been a rattle in the key. I have only got one its black with both door and boot buttons.
I was at work today and i thought i'd see what the rattle was so i opened it up. it was just a bit of junk so not much to worry about. After i had cleaned it abit i put it back together.
This afternoon when i got to the car, the key would not unlock or turn off the alarm. when i press the door button, the red light flashes about 4-6 times a second.
I was able to start the car and drive it home so i'm ok but what have i done???

Cheers,

Tim

What did the small piece of "junk" look like? Sounds like it might have been a part of the PCB, or the door lock/unlock micro switch has now broken off when you reassembled it? This happened to me when I only had one key and had to solder it back on!

Looks like part of a laptop

Sorry, bad day at work, bored to tears.

Difficult to see what it is. Your camera got macro mode by any chance?

Is it a transponder chip?

I very much think it is the alarm transponder that's been chucked away.

Not connected to anything else in the key - just sits there, transponding (as you do).

Re: Help: GTA key not turning off/on alarm

I went out last night and tried it again: Worked!
I still have the thingy at home, and it has come off the circuit board. i'm going to buy a soldering iron and put it back on...
I'll try and get a better pic...

Re: Help: GTA key not turning off/on alarm

My understanding was that it wasn't connected. Perhaps I'm thinking of a different key I've heard about - but it was definitely an Alfa one.

Anyway, glad it works but does make me wonder what it is.
