new car tax charges on 156 GTA
Hi All,
I have a 156 GTA which is june 2002 model, does anyone know if the car tax prices are going to rise any more on this model it seems to be very confusing it comes in on a band F but as far as i understand the new pricing is only on new cars bought, the price i pay for this car at the moment is £212 for the year,
Thanks,
Aharkel.

Re: new car tax charges on 156 GTA
This year it remains in band F and goes up £5. Next year it moves to band M and goes up to £440.
Do a forum search and you will find plenty on this subject - then write a letter to your MP declaring your disgust in the retrospective nature of the changes.

Says £210 for the year as your car band F was registered after 1 March 2001, well for this year at least
And then your into band M holy crap that takes the biscuit

Re: new car tax charges on 156 GTA
Actually, it doesn't matter what engine the car has as its pre-2001 and goes on capacity alone, there's only the "less than 1549cc" and "1550cc or over" bands, so whether or not it has a 2.5 or 3.0 or 3.2, tax would be the same if it was registered before March 2001.
In fact, I'm pretty sure if you got your GTA bored to 3.7 it would still make no difference to your tax.

I think I must of been thinking of the Diesel? Wasn't that 2001?
Even the twinny would go up to £300 a year!

Diesel was X-reg (January 2001), so would still be under the old system. Thankfully they don't go on the CO2 test at the MOT, otherwise that diesel would cost about £2k a year to tax!
I suppose if your Twinny was going up to £300 then the GTA will only be costing you an extra £140 a year, which is only 38p a day more.

Aha. you see my thinking.
Plus I dont drive to work so fuel bills won't go up by much either.

I would expect about a 40% rise in fuel bills.. So if you normally do only twenty quid a week, expect to do nearer £30 now. I'm basing that on 35mpg for the 1.8 and 25mpg for the GTA, but it'll probably be worse than that in London and when you are caning it. Worst I've had out of mine is 17mpg, if that's anything to go by.. Best I've had is 30mpg on a run, you should do better than that as you have higher ratios.

Re: new car tax charges on 156 GTA
Yeah, I suppose if you re-tax in February 2009 then you're offsetting the increase til 2010.. Thats two years from now, so no need to worry about it.
