what discs

yawn. another what disc thread. Anyhoo, if you wouldnt mind, I'd like a recommendation on what discs to go for as I have Ferodo DS pads at the front and standards at the back. Anyone bought from alternative autos? They have brembo, mintex or pagid.

btw, ive got 330mm big-boy brakes

Re: what discs

Stock discs IMO, unless your doing full-on track days.

If you are getting brake-fade on the 330mm discs with Ferodo's you need to upgrade your fluid before you start changing the discs.

Re: what discs

Do they definitely need replacing? Are they worn or warped or anything? I would just stick to the stock discs, they really are awesome. Thats what I plan to upgrade to on my 3.0 V6.

Re: what discs

you must be the only person who has ever said the standard ones are good! Not that I'm disagreeing. I never could tell the difference between standard and performance brake discs. pads yes but discs no.

Re: what discs

I'd like to barge in on this thread if I may as i'm not far off overhawling the brakes on my GTA. As far as i'm aware it has the stock discs and pads and i'd really like to know what to change them to.

Only problem is i'm not 100% if the car has had the brake upgrade! The service history shows that in very late 2003 the pads and discs were replaced (with no charge) but it doesn't say if this was the 330 upgrade. Is there and easy way to tell at all?

Sorry to hijack your thread ohwell BTW

Why do people drive anything else?

If you cut me in half an Alfa would roar out and run you over! You've been warned

Re: what discs

Well comparing stock 330mm discs and pads to my 284mm grooved Tarox discs and pads they are really good. But compared to similar sized discs from other manufacturers I have no idea how good they are.

Actually, I have it on good account that the OEM Alfa brake pads utilise chocolate as a main ingredient, along with the metal, carbon, butter and candy floss..

Me too,
today i forked out 300 quid and bought Ferodo Ds2500(balance motorsport) Front genuine alfa romeo discs rear magnetti marelli discs and pads(Shop4parts). I decided to use alfa original front discs as the original ones lasted for 34K. The downside is that i won't have them till Tuesday and thus i cannot take advantage of the bank holiday and fit them.

To be certain what you have, print out that jpg and bring it out to you car. In daylight

newalfisti, why did you buy marelli discs for the back and not alfa romeo seeing that you the alfa ones lasted you so long. Btw, Alfa discs should last to 30-35k miles anyway.

I really want to get the braided hoses as I had them on previous v6 alfas and they give much more cofidence and feedback when braking as they reduce sponginess quite significantly. Biggish tricky job though as you have to/should bleed out the brake fluid.
My ideal day would consist of doing all discs and braided hoses. A 2yr old son sees to it I get little time at weekends to do this stuff anymore.

Re: what discs

Bugger...It's only got the 305's. Never mind, but i've not had a single problem with them warping at all anyway so they must be a decent set.

I don't suppose there is any likelyhood of getting Alfa Uk to cough up is there? don't all laugh at once

Well apparently the guy who upgraded the brakes to 330 on my GTA said that Alfa coughed up for half the bill.

He originally had the multipokes though and the new calipers didnt fit so he had to also get the teledials..

Cheers OA, any idea how much "half" a bill would be?

P.S - How does it feel to be able to say "My GTA"?

Re: what discs

Weird as I don't have it parked outside yet.

But it feels good!

It's been my dream car for the last 2 years!

I'll ask about the Bill.. business.
