Chris
Apparently he will call me as soon as he knows anything.
There has been no email communication and nothing in writing. I didn't feel comfortable.

Maybe he thinks you want to clone his car, what with you asking for scans of log book and number plate?
Hope all goes OK for you. Be good to see a GTA blasting around the "area"

The fact that I had paid him was good enough for that I thought....
The waiting game now.

Hmm. Legally speaking taking the deposit back probably wasn;t the best of ideas.
It's not like it's going to get to that stage though, so maybe doesn't matter.
Worth pointing out to the guy that the original buyer forfeited his side of the contract by failing to contact, whereas you yourself have an intact contract with him for the purchase of the car? (Don't tell him the stuff we've said about taking your deposit back!)

Some thing my friend, are just not meant to happen, don’t screw yourself up with it, there will be another one, there always is. Besides if you get treated like that, do you really want to deal with the guy?

I pointed that out to him. He replied saying he was trying to be fair to both parties.

Re: I've just bought a 156GTA and guess how much...
I can't believe that you asked for your deposit back - You only got in there with the skin of your teeth and now you have lost your claim to the beastie!
You should have arrived at the sellers door asap with cash and had it sorted already - Wales aint that far!
Anyway all the best but all looks to be lost for now - He promised to sort you out hours ago!

No, I'm not
The only reason why his failure to contact as soon as he won the auction IS a breach of contract, is because of the small print which you claim does not matter
Without that small print, the original buyer has every right to claim the car is his, legally speaking.

Re: I've just bought a 156GTA and guess how much...
ebay car sales usually go wrong. My opinion has always been if your car is good, then it doesnt need to go on ebay. Im not saying all ebay cars are duff but a massive amount are. Ebay is more suited to buying mainstream cheap standard cars. Runarounds, station cars that sort of thing. A GTA is a very specialist piece of kit. They shouldnt be bought of ebay unless its a dealer advert and even then, I'd still be nervous.
Sorry to be so negative, but I've been in the Alfa fraternity for years and I hear no end to people frustrated either trying to buy a car from some dick on ebay or buying a pup.

Re: I've just bought a 156GTA and guess how much...
Ebay is fine if you are carefull, just another advertising/selling tool - Ask all the right questions and only bid/buy if you get the right answers. I bought my last 166 via ebay auction, ran it for 18 months and 15k miles and have just traded it in for £300 more than I paid. I also bought a Seicento Schumacher via ebay but as it was local to me I bypassed the auction and viewed and paid cash - Just traded that in for £350 more than paid after 18 months and 8k miles.
Bargains to be had but as mentioned buyer beware!

It has to be Italian! Fiat, Lancia & Alfa all my days.
My Alfas - 164 3.0 12v - 156 1.8 SP1 - 164 3.0 24v - 156 SW 1.8 SP3 - 166 3.0 Super - 166 3.2 Ti - Brera SV JTDM
