Another premature GTA cambelt failure

I had a fun day of coasting to the side of the road, upon opening the bonnet I found that the cambelt cover is all mashed up and the belt is missing.

As it is an approved used Alfa, I'm hoping it is all covered by warranty...

Still it failed just short of the 49K service. A lot earlier than the recommended 76K distance.

Mileage is only half the story..
They need to be replaced which ever limit happens first (mileage or the allowed time).

Oh ..and bad luck

Re: Another premature GTA cmabelt failure

She is an 04, but I've only had the car since November. I guess I foolishly thought that the Alfa Used scheme would check the condition of the belt.

Just looking through the bumf, I got with the car, it doesn't look like it was done earlier.

I've read that it was a good idea to get it done earlier, thats why I was going to have it done at the 48K service. This was going to be next month.

Re: Another premature GTA cambelt failure

All they can do visually inspect it for wear/damage. It should be covered in the majority by warranty. The fact that Alfa haven't changed the interval for the V6 puts you in a strong position, the interval is still 5yr/72k miles.
