Re: Brand New 08 GTA's!!
Out of interest, if you bought them new now, would they be band G tax instead of F?
Not so keen since they're selespeed anyway *runs away*

Re: Brand New 08 GTA's!!
So what is the warranty situation? Are they UK cars?
I have to say that part of me would be tempted by a pearl white 147GTA new with the manual box. I've heard the GTA sillispeed is fine but I'm a stickler for the old heel and toe and like a manual box - just for the mechanical pleasure.
Still, yummy...

Re: Brand New 08 GTA's!!
Hmm,
Reminds me of that tale of GTA's bound for Hong Kong that suffered water damage at sea as a result of some kind of water ingress issue with the ship. Alfa apparently sat on them for a few years (perhaps to let them dry out).
£18K for a GTA??
There was a delivery mileage 56 plate on Autotrader last year that bounced from a London dealer to a Northern Ireland dealer and was priced at £22,000. Not sure it ever sold at that price.
I would rather have a low mileage second hand one, but you will struggle to get Selespeed on that.

Re: Brand New 08 GTA's!!
Park Lane were selling brand new 166 facelift 3.0 sportronics a while ago for 15k, they got snapped up by veloces and mangos and they advertised them for a couple of k more.
The 166's were originally from Malaysia. Some story about the Malaysian goverment tax system that meant cars were unsold and required shipping elsewhere. I think this will most likely be the same story with these GTA's. Get in there before Veloces and Mango's.

Selespeed... Have you driven a Selespeed GTA? I prefer it to the manual.. and love the throttle blipping effect on downchanges, i'm not as skilled as a racedriver to do heel and toe gearchanges and she does it for me everytime... what a pleasure... Don't knock it until you've tried it on a GTA, trust me I have a big grin on my face, everytime i gear down, especially when coming up to traffic lights or the shopping mall parking........

Re: Brand New 08 GTA's!!
I had a selespeed Stilo Abarth, a manual is infinitaly superior to a selespeed.

I'd like to be able to do this on my manual but I think the fly-by-wire throttle doesn't always respond quickly enough on mine when the blip is small. It has to be slow and deliberate - not really what you want.
On same subject, in another thread, it has been mentioned that blipping the throttle may put the cam belt under undue load as the cams are accelerated, possibly contributingto early belt failure. Not convinced myself so merely reporting that it's been claimed.

Re: Brand New 08 GTA's!!
The 6 speed Selespeed is a slightly different system IIRC and far more sporty. It's the same cambio corse (racing change) system Maserati use

Re: Brand New 08 GTA's!!
I'd have the GTA selespeed over the GTA manual I reckon, and I am a big fan of manual gearboxes but haven driven the BMW M3 with SMG II (very similar to Selespeed) it is great fun. Manual has got to be more reliable though, purely as there's less to go wrong.
I've not heard of Selespeed problems on a GTA but then there are so few of them it would be hard to gauge in comparison to the normal 'dodgy' Selespeed.

Re: Brand New 08 GTA's!!
Bought the New GTA from the Northern Ireland dealer it was first registered in Jan 08. Was told the car has on its way to Australia (spec would suggest its not UK - no Cruise control, CD changer in boot late 156 model spec, stereo unit has built in phone but sim slot not UK compatabile). Car drives and feels superb, no sigh of any previous damage. Anyone know of the history?

Ah, you bought the Sportwagon from Roadside. Welcome . That was a nice car. I had a good look round it when it was there. I'm curious as to what warranty you got as I know Alfa wouldn't provide one.

Throttle blipping to synchronize rev's on down-changes, whether
achieved via well practiced heel & toe manual changes or the (very accurate) GTA selespeed system not only assists in setting the car up for balanced entry into corners etc, but substantially reduces the dynamic loads on all rotating components within the engine & gearbox.
(That's assuming that you don't simply apply the brakes and then decide which gear you need after the event)

Heart attack there for a moment that they had finally got something based on the 159 out the door!
Seems like a possible deal, slightly scary on the history but I am sure there was some details of the dodgy date/chassis range of the flooded cars floating around on here somewhere?

Re: Brand New 08 GTA's!!
Not sure of the actual build date, the garage thought late 04 early 05? Got 2 year warranty from the dealer - didn't seem a problem at the time? So far have had to get a couple of niggles fixed and all where covered. Had a 159 Q4 before - far rather have the gta.

If it was a SW it wouldn't have been destined for Australia - they only ever sold the sedans here.
