156 Veloce

147 GTA owners views.

Hello all.

I'm currently driving a 156 TS at the moment. Next year i have a years paid industry placement at university so i will probably get myself a nice cash pot by the end of it. whey!

So, i have a list of cars i may look at buying and the 147GTA is one of them. I've driven a 156GTA before and loved it, fantastic car, superb handling and not bad power.

How does the 147 compare honestly, from those that own/drive them?

Does the addition of a Q2 calm some of the massive understeer under load significantly?

Can you make them behave as well as a 156GTA in the bends?

I'd like some decent insight before investing, otherwise i'll go down the 156 route

Thanks, Sam

Re: 147 GTA owners views.

Never driven a 156 of any form but...

Torque steer isn't an issue, IMO. I never had significant problems with it, but you do get it a little. Q2 diff is pretty much and essential upgrade, both in terms of preventative maintenance and as an upgrade.

Understeer is more of an issue, its bound to be with a big V6. Tweeked geo and stiffer rear ARB helps. Coilovers really are a big improvement too, both in handling and avoiding it grounding out.

And .... I was always informed that the 147 handled slightly better than the 156 out of the box? Its got VDC aswell.

Personally I prefer the 156 GTA and it is cheaper, Q2 and Performance Friction pads are a must have and they are both cheap.

Good luck with whatever you buy

Re: 147 GTA owners views.

Just my opinion and yes I own one, but I prefer the 156 GTA. Partly as I prefer saloons to small hatches, but I think the extra size and wheel base is better on a powerful car, just feels more stable than the powerful hatches I have owned. Putting on my flame proof suit and retreating now

Looking forward to getting the Q2 on mine later in the year. Not that I condone this and it was on a dual carriageway tonight with little traffic but I struggle to show up a chav in an astra tonight as through the roundabouts and exiting them he was pulling away while my traction control was going mental

Good luck with the search though

Re: 147 GTA owners views.

I would get the Q2 done ASAP as I understand it the price of the diff is going up soon, I have ordered a few for stock but they don’t hang around long.

What you doing racing an Astra anyway?

Was more that I was running late and he didn't want to be overtaken

Cheers for the heads up on the Q2, should have my finances in order soon so expect a call in the near future
