Tyre choice for the GTA?

I'm currently running Pirrelli PZero's on her at the moment and they are getting very near the end of their life.

Here's my dilema......Which tyre do I opt for when I come to replace them?

IMO the PZero are rubbish in very wet weather, they tend to aqua plane A LOT! To the point where I just don't trust them in wet conditions at all. Can't fault them in dry weather BTW.

I'm looking for high performance tyre, but one that can cope (and give confident handling) in the wet.

I like the look of the Goodyear Eagle F1, and the tread pattern LOOKS as though it would clear water very well. Their price seem reasonable to, I've seen some suppliers offering 4 fitted for about £360.

Are there any other options though? around the same price! I don't mind spending money but i don't see any point in spending more than I have to.

Or does anyone have an opinion on the GY F1?

Why do people drive anything else?

If you cut me in half an Alfa would roar out and run you over! You've been warned

Toyo T1-S or T1-R

Without a shadow of a doubt.

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?

Well we are running 2 Alfas on F1s, 156 & GT, previous loved Bridgestone S02s but not the replacement S03s. GYs have been V good, I believe they are at least as good in wet as dry. Recommend to anyone. About to renew with F1s on the GT.

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?

Thanks for the feedback.

Just found these Tyre Details personally I've never heard of Avon but they look every bit as good as the F1's.

Any experience on these anyone?

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?

splashing the cash soon on either bridgestone re050's or michelin pilot sort 2's.

but had f1-gsd3's on my old punto turbo and were excellent for traction and grip. may see if i can get a deal on these for the 18's.

have got s0-2s on the 17's, have heard the replacement s0-3 pole position isnt as good.

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?

I have bridgestone re050s all round and just ordered 2 more for the front as they have been great, I think they are a good all round tyre and I have used goodyear F1s and Dunlop SP9000s in the past.

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?

I've been through many tyres on many Alfas V6's. Firstly, don't but Avon. They are ****e. You will rarely read a good review about them on any car forum. I bought them on my first gtv v6 as they were cheaper than the rest. Rubbish in the wet.
The Goodyear Eagle F1's and Toyo Proxes are excellet tyres, the Toyos IMO wont last as long but they are both very good.
Michelin Pilot Sports would be my choice today. They are pricey though.
I've got conti's on my gta and while good generate more noise than I would like.
Not a big fan of Pirelli's. I had p-zero's on my 156 gta. They weren't bad but for the money, they were bad value.

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?

I am in exactly the same position. I have narrowed it down to two tyres:

Goodyear F1 Assymetric
or
Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta
I am about to order them today and still havnt decided !
I has the Vredstein Sportrac3 on the front of the Corrado and was blown away by how good they were in the wet. They were as good as any other in the dry.

So i am very tempted to give the Sessantas a shot, but they are very different tread design than the Sportracs. They look pretty cool too ( Italian design on an Alfa.. ). Thing is i am buying 4 and its a lot of money if they are crap.

I had thought about getting two of each and swapping them over after 12 months for a proper comparison !

I guess i'll take the plunge later today. Will let you know what i do and how i get on.

Autodelta airbox + Ragazzon zorst. 17" Teledials + 330mm brake upgrade. Silver + black leather.

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?

I fitted Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas to the back of my GTA a few months ago, and have been very pleased.
In fact, the level of grip on the back has made the P Zero Rosso's on the front seem a lot worse by comparison. When I come to replace the fronts as well (in the next couple of weeks) I will certainly be putting Vredesteins on there too.

I have RE050A's all round and they've been very good - excellent wet and dry, and impressively slow wearing. Useful wheel protection, too.

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?

Eagle F1 asymmetrics.

Latest Evo test winner and by quite some margin. IMO, they are alittle "drummy" but the grip etc. is excellent (even before we Q2'd the GT).

Got 4 225/45/17 94Y's from event tyres for £360. They come to you and their level of service is excellent.

Nothing to pay up front either

Hope this helps

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?

Just found a place on the web called "Tyre Trader" who can supply the tyres and fit them for £343.12. What's more the fitting centre is about 3 minutes away from my house.

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?

I got Goodyear F1's all round, and have been very pleased. Previously had Pirelli P6000 on the back and they were laughable even in the dry. F1's seem good in all conditions.

I always take my car to a local tyre specialist, good price and you can rely on them not to stick the jack in a stupid place.

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?

Do you other GTA owners have to have the car driven up on to a small ramp befome they can get the jack under? Or is that just me?

Mine has been OK at the place I take it to. The local MOT station I go to though can only get it on one of their ramps and even then getting it back off takes me and someone else lifting the front wheelarches

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?

I make sure the spotty little YTS lad takes care when he jacks her up then. (why to tyre fitter think they know how to rebuild an engine BTW?)

Why are the asym's better than the normal GSD3's i'm gonna go for?

The PZero's i have are asym's, and were absolute cr4p!
