Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?
Wouldn't use T1-R's again. Had (have) then on my GTA and you can feel the flex.
Used them on my Elise and they were great, but don't suit the GTA IMO. Do a search on Toyo flex, there are alot of owners of all makes who talk about the flex....

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?
this thread is a good read. always interesting to hear about the latest opinions on the latest tyres - and things change.
i have Toyo Proxes4 (225/35/19). suit my needs fine in terms of grip, which is primarly dry-weather driving (i rarely drive the car if it's wet!). but noisier than i'd like, considerably more than the original Bridgestone RE050's (225/45/17).
i was thinking about Pirelli PZero Nero next, but reports here aren't overly favourable. the GY F1 Asymmetric doesn't appear to have arrived in australia (not on local website nor from google search), but is produced in my size, and something i will definitely look out for come time for new tyres (still a long way off though).

GT . 3.2L V6 . Q2 . Kyalami Black - Red . Eibach . KONI . ATP 19" . TOYO . Mille Miglia exhaust

Obviously it's not truly important, and it's almost embarrassing to mention it - but those Sessantas are exceedingly good looking too. As tyres go.

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?
Oh, I didn't give any instructions to my tyre fitter about where to place the jack, but he was clearly being very careful about it. Offered the jack up to the car and let it down again, with little adjustments in positioning, 4 or 5 times before he was satisfied and lifted it all the way.

Why are the asym's better than the normal GSD3's i'm gonna go for?
The PZero's i have are asym's, and were absolute cr4p!
Mine are GSD3's. It is quite odd as seem to be either a love em or hate em tyre. Like I say I am more than happy with the grip they provide.

Tyre porn. A new concept ... and probably a new website - coming to a browser near you soon.
I only deal with facts, and am almost never swayed by looks ... ( mmmm. i dont think i would have bought a GTA if that was really true )

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?
I will admit I'm tempted by the Sessantas, but i'm not sure i'm willing to pay £400 for a set, without KNOWING they are gonna be bloody brilliant.

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?
Always found GY F1s a good compromise between grip and noise on my 156 GTA. Last pair were <GBP140 from mytyre.co.uk

Here's my dilema......Which tyre do I opt for when I come to replace them?
IMO the PZero are rubbish in very wet weather, they tend to aqua plane A LOT! To the point where I just don't trust them in wet conditions at all. Can't fault them in dry weather BTW.
I'm looking for high performance tyre, but one that can cope (and give confident handling) in the wet.
I like the look of the Goodyear Eagle F1, and the tread pattern LOOKS as though it would clear water very well. Their price seem reasonable to, I've seen some suppliers offering 4 fitted for about £360.
Are there any other options though? around the same price! I don't mind spending money but i don't see any point in spending more than I have to.
Or does anyone have an opinion on the GY F1?
I have got Michelin Pilot Sport tyres on mine and the grip is awesome, especially here in the UAE where it rarely rains.... they're also very quiet tyres with a nice looking tread.

ATB.. but I say Viva Michelin!!

no problem, glad you found it informative. it is interesting to see how well the michelin does in the dry. I only really 'push-on' in the dry, never been to drive hard in the wet, this is where the michelins score for me. although you need to know the results for any potential emergency situations in wet conditions.
I do like the Bridgestones in terms of quality of construction and wear rate from my experience of the s02's. Both are at the higher cost end though.

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?
Pirelli PZeros are getting a bit of a bad run here. I'm a bit surprised as previous tyre threads have rated them as pretty good. I have PZero Rossos on my GTA on the 18" wheels. They were an immediate improvement on the Michelin Pilot Sports they replaced (although I'm told the PS2s are much better). I've had no problems with aquaplaning and all round performance seems good and wear is reasonable too. I'd have no problems buying them again.

Michelin Pilot PS and Pilot PS2 have nothing in common....
PS2 is a much better tire, as proven in all the tests...

Ultrac Sessanta as tested on the Brera
I've stuck with PZero Rosso thus far, keen to know if the P Zero are any good, haven't seen them included in any groups tests yet and only found them listed on one site out of a few after a brief search, tyre-shopper. What the hell were Pirelli thinking by not naming them?!

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?
I'm on my second set of Michelin PS2s and would recommend them for all conditions.
Only about £95 each for the 17s from Costco too.

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?
I recently put four pirelli p zero neros on my GTA and found them to be a big improvement on the michelins that where on...be it worn,I have 19in superleggras on the vehicle....not my choice as it gives a really harsh ride but the neros have made a massive improvement... and surprisingly enough i got em from kwik fit 235/35/19...£470 fitted !!! bargain...and it fitted on the ramps..

what michelin's did you have - PS2? and how worn were they, and how are the Nero's better for you?
are you also saying the michelin's were more comfy?
i have 225/35/19. the Nero's were on my future shortlist, but i would like to have a quiet, comfy tyre. so i'm swaying towards the PS2 or perhaps the GY F1 Asym instead. i realise my tyre size can mean the results differ to other people with 17s or your 235/35.

Re: Tyre choice for the GTA?
yeah,it had three ps2 and a budget tyre on rear o/s when i bought it..all where down to around 3mm giving the car a really harsh ride..but the neros made the car feel completely different in comfort and handling...and the road noise has been halfed...still not as quiet as i thought they would be but a big improvement...suppose its swings and rounabouts...grip is fantastic in the dry...the car has been given a new lease of life..one hairey moment in the wet but that was because i put too much faith in them too quick...have learned my lesson!!! but overall a good choice of tyres for the GTA.

Not really a fair comparison, a mix of 3 worn PS2's + budget tire ( never a good combination) vs 4 new Pirellis....
